Gran Canaria Puerto Mogan

I am going to Gran Canaria Puerto Mogan next week with my partner, 4 year old and 6 month old. Is anyone familiar with this area? Has anyone got any restaurant recommendations? I quite like to try local food if possible and avoid the major tourist traps (although I am aware that the whole place will be made for tourists)! I would like to try some nice seafood and tapas rather than cheese toasties and English breakfasts! Thank you.

I love staying at Puerto de Mogan. As you point out, every restaurant there is a tourist one as it’s a purpose built resort, but it is (dare I say it) quite a middle-class destination and lots of the restaurants are of a very high quality. A Casa Mia is the tiniest restaurant you’ll ever see (so you’ll need to book) but it does great Italian food and I’d recommend having the Provolone cheese special as a shared starter. We always visit Asia House for some Chinese food.

There are quite a few cats in the town, who are looked after and fed by the local restaurant staff. They are usually friendly and enjoy human attention.

Thanks for your response I'm glad to hear the food is high quality. I am from a place where there are really nice seafood restaurants so when we go away sometimes we can be disappointed! I will note your suggestions. I also love cats 😻

I’m going on Wednesday for Christmas and NY. Just love it there. There’s a wide range of restaurants. It’s hugely popular with Scandinavians who winter over there.
my favourites are
Salunna
El Malecon
Samirra Grill
Enotica
Love Mogan
El Condor
La Taberna

Valle de Mogan in the old town or Acayamo traditional Canarian food.

Yes there are a few tourist spots but also some good restaurants. Lovely marina and fishing harbour and nice sandy beach. It’s cosmopolitan and quite upmarket. The Spar sells fresh lobsters 🦞.

We had a fabulous meal at I love Mogan, beautifully cooked fresh fish and a good children’s menu. Do save room for dessert.

I've always got room for dessert!

Mogan is my favourite place in the canaries. Make sure you go to the port restaurants - we've found them much better than those on the beachfront. Enjoy!

There’s also a new beachfront restaurant that’s looking good that I’m keen to try. Recently opened.

I also think the barranco area now has some good options. Salunna especially and Al Bek.

We've lived there for a few years and find the marina fronting restaurants to be a little 'higher end' for lack of a better expression than the beach front restaurants. You will have a lovely holiday. It's a really pretty little place to stay and if you want to have a look around the buses are dead easy and take you everywhere.

Oh, forgot to mention make sure you book. Most restaurants get fully booked very quickly over the Christmas period and lots of people are turned away.
