No safe in hotel, where to put passports?

Booked a hotel, realised it has no safe.
Where is the best place to store passports?
Should I carry them with me?
Put them in a locked suitcase?
Any other ideas?

If you are really worried about them being stolen and the place is well dodgy, then get a ziplock bag and some duct tape. Remove toilet cistern lid. Tape bag to underneath lid. Close lid.

Suitcases can be stolen too.

If place looks ok, leave somewhere hidden but not the cistern 😊

I would 100% forget it's there

In with your dirty knickers bag

Never used the safe in a hotel and never had a problem. Never had to show a passport in places that require you to carry them.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Hotel thieves are opportunists looking for cash and jewellery, and thefts from hotels are much rarer than street theft and pickpocketing. And there's not too much that can be done with a stolen UK passport given all the biometrics and other security measures.

You biggest problem might be forgetting them -- I've had two friends recently tell me stories about forgetting to take passports out of hotel rooms - one from the safe, the other from some cubby hole they'd found in the room. Have a look at your luggage and see if there is a zippable pocket or something, then at least when you get to the airport and realise you didn't pick them up you will have them in your bag.
