Flying to Frejus summer 2025 - Nice or Marseille?

Hi all, we are going to a campsite in Frejus next summer and booking flights now.

My FIL advised Marseille, but the flights are about £500 more than to Nice. He's suggesting Marseille on the basis of the drive (picking up a hire car at the airport), but Google maps says Marseille > Frejus is longer.

Am I missing something, is the traffic from Nice to Frejus really hideous in summer? It will be Saturday late afternoon that we arrive, and departing early on a Monday morning...

My FIL is generally very stuck in his ways, but also hasn't done this particular trip in 20 years, so I'm hoping someone here has more recent experience.

as someone who glues to marseille regularly I’d think Nice was the better option. The traffic on the Côte d’Azur is hideous but Nice is nearer Frejus. And if it’s cheaper, I’d say it’s a no brainer.

We have done this trip many times, most recently June this year. We stay at a site in Frejus and we always fly to Nice. (It would never even occur to me to fly to Marseille.) The drive from Nice to Frejus is a very easy one, all motorway, no issues.

We holiday in Fréjus every year. Nice is definitely closer. It takes about half the time to get to Fréjus from Nice as it does from Marseille.

PS. To be honest the traffic is awful across the entire Côte d’Azur especially in the summer, but the views are spectacular while you’re stuck in traffic jams!

Definitely Nice. We have a place at Mandelieu which isn’t far from Frejus - traffic is busy in the summer months but it’s an easy drive.,
