50th trip January 2026

I'd like to go away for my 50th early Jan 2026. Family of 4, kids who will be 15 and 13. We'd constrained to school holidays. I fancy Oman but it's expensive and looks like indirect flights are 10 hours plus. So maybe a city break like Athens? Hit me up, especially with lovely hotels to stay in too that works for adults & teens

Abu Dhabi has direct flights for a lot less than Oman. It will be warm in January and if you're not after a flashy AI resort, then hotel prices aren't too bad. There's loads of culture and enough to keep teens occupied.

Still considering options! Entirely different vibe but both Malaga and Budapest look amazing, which would you pick for a few days with for a family of 4 (2 teens) in early January? As it's my 50th, I'd love a gorgeous hotel and some amazing dinners.

Depends if you want hot or cold?
New York?

I love Malaga. Normally I’d say go for it, but check first if your dates coincide with the Spanish Christmas (epiphany) and whether or not the festivities appeal.

I'd recommend you look at Cape Town. It's the middle of their Summer, interesting city with lots to do and the most amazing restaurants.

Another vote for Malaga. Hike the Caminito Del Rey with the teens (google it, it is stunning) then head up to Granada to visit the Alhambra. A real bucket list place. It will be 18-20 degrees at that time of year and the Christmas lights are amazing if they are still up. Epiphany is 6th Jan.
