Hi

We are thinking of going to a Dutch centre parcs.

I remember reading on here before (but can't find it now) that there is a Dutch centre parcs where you can cycle on safe flat paths to a local town. Does any one know which location this was please?!

Erpenheide (Belgium rather than Netherlands though) has a marked cycle route on paths/quiet roads to nearest town. It's a pretty quiet town but has a few cafes etc

woffley · 30/11/2024 16:17

De Kempervennan is quite close to a town IIRC.

CitiesInDust · 30/11/2024 16:18

Die Vossemeren is near Lommel.

BitOutOfPractice · 30/11/2024 16:22

If you look on a map for proximity to a town you can almost 100% guarantee there’ll be a cycle path there. And with 100% certainty guarantee that it’ll be flat.

Thanks so much. I'm thinking De Kempervennan was quite possibly the one. I remember previous posters talking about a good pancake restaurant in the local town they cycled to and the kids would love that. Just don't want to book the wrong one!

Not Centre Parcs but Duinrell in the Netherlands very similar. You can cycle to the beach and the town is a short walk or cycle. 30mins from Amsterdam.

Definitely De Kempervennen! Great pancake place - De Familie Sykerbuyk -when turning right out main entrance of CP, just a flat cycle away, about 10mins if I recall. And if you cycle the other way (past the snowdome) to Westerhoven, it’s lovely on segregated cycle paths through fields and there is another great restaurant Bij de Neut in the small town.

Not centre parks but Duinrell is great. You can cycle into town and to the beach.

CandyLeBonBon · 01/12/2024 00:19

Ooh bookmarking for ideas!

Another recommendation for Duinrell. Next to a nice little town. Can cycle on amazing cycle paths to the beach and also easy cycle on good paths to Leiden.

I'm Dutch and agree with poster above, anywhere in the Netherlands is cycling distance from a nice town 😁. I took my DC to Duinrell, which they loved, in particular the great pool with fab slides. And cycling distance to Den Haag, Wassenaar, Voorschoten, and Leiden. Most places in Holland have nice pancake restaurants too. But I guess i am biased :)

Oh and I forgot to say, most Dutch roads have safe cycling lanes. Cycling lanes along busier roads are often completely separate from the car lanes with at least a curb in between. My friends just returned from centre parks near Zandvoort (beach not far from Amsterdam) and loved it. Hope you have a fab trip!

Yes we went to Kempervennen a few weeks ago and it's easy to cycle to the local town. Great centre parks too!

CuteOrangeElephant · 01/12/2024 19:31

Center Parcs Zandvoort is pretty much in the town itself. I cycled past it.

Thereisnoname · 01/12/2024 19:33

Another reccomendation for Duirnell. Went this summer and it was lovely. Good pool and enough rides for the kids ( 9 and 11) plus excellent playground.
Short walk into small town and short bus ride to train station to Amsterdam.

No1HolidayPlanner · 01/12/2024 22:50

Duinrell.. really recommend it.. great cycling options 😊

BaronessBomburst · 01/12/2024 22:54

You can cycle to Gennep from Het Heijderbos, and Nijmegen and Cleves (in Germany) are both a really short drive away.

Im not Dutch but spent a lot of time there and I totally agree - it’s not just your national bias. What’s not to like about a nation where you are always just a flat safe cycle from a pancake or a delicious fried snack? 🇳🇱

Not Center Parcs or Dutch, but Lalandia in Denmark is a similar concept and is a mile or two from Billund town (and the airport) with cycle paths and it's completely flat. It's also near the original Legoland and a load of other Lego attractions.

Bjorkdidit · 03/03/2026 15:21

Oh, just seen you've bumped your own thread over a year down the line. Did you get to a Dutch CP and cycle to the local town?
