Holiday 7 /8 months pregnant or with a 2 month old?

Hey,
We have a 3 year old and are due our 2nd in the beginning of July/ end of June. 🥰
We are debating whether to have our summer holiday either in april/ May as a baby moon and so our 3 year old gets some quality time before the new arrival. We would need to go somewhere like Eygpt or Canaries for the sunshine. OR do we wait and go in September when our new baby is here and we can go somewhere closer like Turkey or Greece.
wondering if anyone has experienced travelling with a tiny baby and a toddler.. x

Yes. In the UK. I liked to establish routines with a baby and not worry about not having what I wanted to hand. I would not risk being abroad in Egypt for healthcare so late in the pregnancy or bothering with fit to fly to go anywhere later on. All that hassle never appealed to me when pregnant, if I had to go, Canaries.

I had a smooth sailing first pregnancy and a terribly complicated second pregnancy. I wouldn’t risk going overseas when 7/8 months pregnant. Can you even fly at that stage?

  1. check the flying rules from what time a fit to fly certificate is needed
  2. you need travel insurance which covers pregnancy issues, birth and preemie treatment, they can be expensive
  3. check the hospital provisions where you want to go

I had horrible SPD from 7 months and DD was colicky until 4 months. Neither felt that I would have wanted to be anywhere on a plane or long car journey.

I would skip Summer sunshine next year and do a very comfortable UK stay.

Thanks everyone! I think we’ll opt for a uk break next year to be safe!

I think you are honestly making the right decision! I'd find somewhere fairly close too personally and that's family friendly, make things as easy as you can for yourself and you will thank yourself later.

Both times for me 3rd trimester and 4th trimester were utterly grim. But especially second time round it was horrific. I know everyone's experiences are different but all I wanted to do was be in bed for all of it!

I went to Fiji with a 6 month old and a 3 year old (our starting point was Sydney) and it was a lovely holiday. I don't know that I would have chosen to go with a 2 month old, you can't really know what it will be like until you've given birth. I remember feeling quite overwhelmed about how to manage both a baby and a toddler in the early days. That said we did fly Sydney to the UK (and a back) with a 9 week old and the toddler one was 2 and 8 months, but that was because one of my parents passed away unexpectedly and I was coming to my Mum's house and I had people to help the whole time we were away. Maybe you could plan a trip for Feb 2026 once you've given birth.
