Has anyone done this and can tell me what its like. We have got her rabies jabs up to date and the blood test certificate etc. Going to visit my MIL so can get her vets to do the necessary on the way back. But just wondered if anyone could tell me what to expect, what to do when I get to the ferry terminal and what they are like etc. Really nervous that the poor pooch will get impounded :-(

When are you going? My father has just gone and I think he has taken the dog. I will ask him when he gets back what it is like.

A friend has just done this and said the only thing she objected to was havingto pay for the dog but it wasn't allowed out of te car on the ferry! The whole doggy passport/vet thing was fine - she just hated leaving her dog alone in the car for the journey.

I've done it too, years ago. You weren't allowed to take the dog out of the car but we were allowed to visit him a couple of times! Just felt sorry for him being down there by himself! The dog was fine though!

Yeh, the ferry trip will cost 80 quid and 30 of that is for the dog - more than us!! We are going in June and I am sure she will be fine in the car, she usually just sleeps. Do you know if you have to go to a separate check in at the Dover port, and if it takes very much longer than normal check in?
