Ideas for warm October holiday with plenty to do

We've just come back from an amazing 2 weeks in Florida, while we did do all the parks we also got out and about a fair bit. It's made us realise that we're not a lie on the beach all day family.
We're looking to go away next October but aren't sure where would tick the boxes. Would love ideas or experiences of somewhere warm in October with plenty to do for myself, husband and fairly grown up 11 year old son. He'll have nearly 2 weeks off school so happy to go a bit further a field too maybe!
Thanks

Cyprus may work if you want to stay in Europe but the last October week can already be not 100% sun secure.

The sun sets around 4pm, so it definitely gets chilly but otherwise it's beach and pool weather on sunny days.

There is a lot to explore, we did ancient ruins, Nicosia is a divided city, the whole going through the UN checkpoint is interesting, painted mediveal churches, great food and watersport.

Cairo, Luxor, Nile cruise? Been twice, plenty to see & do.
Jordan is very interesting - if the war finishes.
We did a Victoria Falls, Botswana safaris, + Cape Town a few years ago & loved it.

Los Angeles will be about mid twenties, and San Diego a little warmer.

Sicily. Beaches, architecture, archeological stuff, lovely food, volcanoes. Loads to do and see and pretty nice weather lasting through the month.

DH and I often travel in Sep/Oct to avoid the crowds, heat of summer and school holidays (no kids). From memory, we've done all these places in Sep/Oct. We don't sit on the beach/sun bathe etc:
-Sicily
-Crete
-Malaga city itself. More of a town than a city and not the many Brits-abroad resorts along the coast
-Thailand

For tonnes of things to do, I think Japan is hard to beat. October weather should also be warm and pleasant.

With 2 weeks you can go anywhere! Check where is good. I like this as a good indicator

You're unlikely to find anywhere with more wonderful places to visit than Egypt, and Luxor is an excellent base. There are some really good hotels, the food can be wonderful, and the weather will be glorious at that time of year. It's easy to arrange a day trip to Cairo to see the pyramids, Sakkara, and the main museum, and we've done a three day trip to Aswan and Abu Simbel as well. The trains aren't too bad and internal flights are good.

Turkey. The sea is still warm enough for swimming and the weather is perfect for sightseeing IMO - early to mid 20s at half term (end of oct). Loads to see and do, historical sights, natural landmarks (I really want to visit Cappadochia), markets, boat trips, lots of outdoor activities available.

Do you have any recommendations on where to stay? I've heard driving isn't easy?

We didn't drive. We flew to Catania and got a transfer to Ortigia. We stayed in an apartment called Le Tre Campane with a gorgeous view. There was also Maison Ortigia (i think) in the same block. Boat, trips, archeological park, wandered round the walls and through the narrow streets. Then we got the train to Taormina for a week and stayed in La Terrazza del Teatro Greco. This had amazing views to Etna and the sea. Taormina is stunning. Bus to Castelmola at the very top of the hill, Godfather Tour, Alcantara Gorge, cable car to the beach. The bus goes to Giardini Naxos and Letojanni for more beach options. Got bus back to airport.
