Can anyone help me find an August holiday with this stupid requirements list please?

Looking for a 10(ish) night August holiday but cannot find anywhere that meets the below.

DC will be 13 and 10.

We can't go anywhere hotter than the UK, both kids are awful in the heat and refuse to leave the room. Spain last year was a nightmare, we managed the pool in the morning, room most of the bloody day and then evening meal in the restaurant.

Both want to swim all day every day. They love everywhere we've been that has an aquadome with slides. I am absolutely sick of spending my entire holiday freezing my arse off in a swimming pool. Could probably compromise with some swimming days.

We've all enjoyed theme park and waterpark holidays: Duinrell, Efteling, Legoland (Windsor and Denmark) Lalandia and Disneyland Paris. Disney world Florida a no-go because of the heat. Looked at Europa Park but it looks looks ridiculously expensive. I'm also a bit sick of theme parks too.

Holiday park wise we've done Center Parcs (UK only but Europe ones look pretty much identical?), Ribby Hall, Butlins, Crieff Hydro and Landal Green parks.

A city break would be great, but DC need separate rooms now from eachother and us. All airbnbs in cities seem to cost more than hotels and hotels don't seem to have anything with 3 rooms apart from presidential suites.

DH is happy with anywhere, so despite being zero help with organising at least he's not adding to the list of no's.

Any ideas very gratefully received!

look at the Landal options in the Netherlands and maybe Denmark, there are also nice options on the coastline west of Gadansk, which is lovely itself. I think it’s Sopot that has a great beach and pier, the nearby aquapark redda has a slide through a shark tank which is pretty cool.

Tenerife and book a hotel that gives u passes for siam park. It's one of the best water parks.

They don't want heat

We had some brilliant holidays in Brittany. Great beaches, not too hot and nice pools too.

We went to Lanzarote this summer & have been a few other years and when we were there this year it was actually cooler there than it was UK. It’s also windy there so even on the warmer days it never feels really hot (so you need to be on top of sun cream as you don’t realise the heat), so that might be an option?

In August? We went to gran Canaria this summer and it was 35 degrees 😂

I’d say centre parks in the Netherlands or Brittany with canvas holidays in a caravan. Both really lovely.

Have you been to Bluestone in Pembrokeshire?

Copenhagen with swimming in the harbour? The same for Stockholm? If the UK, Fritton Lake is a v posh rewilding Center Parcs sort of thing (there’s a heated swimming pool and lake swimming) or Lough Erne resort in Northern Ireland.

The harbour is very cold depending on weather and season.

Depending on where in the alps it might be too hot for the OP. I was in Slovenia by the Alps there last September and it was 36°C a couple of days and definitely warmer than the UK throughout the trip.

Norway could be good temperature wise, and you could swim in the fjords there. We didn’t stay anywhere with a swimming pool, but didn’t look for it at booking either.

KittenOnTheTable · 18/11/2024 08:36

If it dosent have to be abroad i would recommend alton towers. Swimming pool has slides ect but its also tropical heating so no getting cold. Then obviously the theme park it self but be with a look into.

VoyagerOfTheTeenYears · 18/11/2024 08:43

Repeating others but a cruise to Norway on Independence of the seas would include waterslides and most of what you are looking for (but single bedrooms are expensive.) And Iceland is fantastic and there are waterslides if you look for them (very expensive there though).

The pestana, Porto Santo, it’s the nearest island to Madeira , we have been 3 times in August it has never gotten hot mid 20’s highest but often cloudy and breezy, we found it to be perfect when our children were small, great swimming pools, stunning beach, a nice little town to visit and a lovely hike up to their mini mountain. I’d go back in an instant but my kids love the heat now and think it’s too cold there. I found it the perfect temp to sit out in all day without turning into a sweaty mess. There are 2 sides to the hotel, one with 2/3 bed fully equipped apartments (although is an all inclusive hotel) and the other more geared to family rooms with small children. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants a sunny getaway without excessive heat

Isobel201 · 18/11/2024 08:52

Florida in Easter time is much better, Disney parks have plenty of shops and areas to walk into just to escape the heat for a bit. We used to go in March/April and never found the heat overbearing.

Yes, I thought the Alps/Central Europe would be hot in summer.

LIZS · 18/11/2024 08:57

Normandy? Try a Pierre et vacances site with pool near the coast.

Yes we were in Playa Blanca beginning of August and it was 33 degrees most days. For people suggesting Canaries - no.

NCfor24 · 18/11/2024 09:18

We're doing Fjords cruise next August and kids will be 14 & 12. Will be booking mix of museum and active type day trips - skylight, hike, rib rides, maybe helicopter flight. Not expecting heat but warm and pleasant will be a bonus but definitely a trip for sites not sun! Small pools on ship but active teen club... We're on P&O Iona.

Waytooearlytogetup · 18/11/2024 09:26

Would also suggest Jersey. They were doing kids surf lessons in St Brelade's Bay that looked fantastic and in general, food, beaches etc were all incredible.

MainStreetOrHighStreet · 18/11/2024 09:55

This thread is v helpful! I'm looking for somewhere not too hot, but with less chance of rain than the UK (having endured a week this year with rain on 5 days out of 7).

The Merton Hotel in Jersey is amazing. The pool complex is fantastic and has lots to keep the kids amused.

I was thinking of Jersey too.

If the Merton doesn't have suitable rooms, go anywhere and use the a big aqua splash in St Helier, and of course the sea (go to St Ouen and learn body boarding/surfing or just have a fantastic time in the rollers).

And loads of other stuff to do

HarrietBond · 18/11/2024 10:17

Genuinely, I agree with Jersey in that it meets a lot of your needs, but please don’t think it offers any sort of water park. Aquasplash is a smallish leisure centre with a slide, the Merton is for small kids mostly. Go for the surfing/coasteering/paddleboarding etc, which is great.

Branleuse · 18/11/2024 10:25

Id do a eurocamp in brittany or northern france

Numsmetty · 18/11/2024 10:26

The French alps.. much better temperatures than Normandy, which was nearly 40c when we went eurocamping. Beautiful lakes to swim in, loads of mountain activities, cycling, kayaking, hiking. There was a nearby mountain you could take the cable car up and then go kart down .. with more staff than visitors! We stayed near Morzine in July. We flew into Zurich and rented a car.

budgiegirl · 18/11/2024 10:29

If you are after a city break, how about Munich? Warm, but not too hot. Great spa at Erding near by - great for swimming/slides and spa areas for you and DH.
Easy to get to plenty of places for sightseeing further afield.and historical interest- castles, mountains, Dachau concentration camp etc.

Or I second the idea of a cruise - Norway etc, or go south from Southampton - even if it's hot, it can be quite breezy at sea, and ships are air-conditioned - there's generally enough to do on the ship that the kids can be off doing their own thing while you enjoy the weather (if that's your thing)

Your main stumbling block with all these plans is the fact that your kids need their own rooms. Is this absolutely necessary? It really bumps up the cost of most holidays. I've got three children (2 boys, one girl, all grown up now) and when they were teens, we spent most of our holidays all crammed in to one room, or two at the most. They knew that if we were going to do the kind of holidays they wanted to do, then room sharing was the only way we could afford to do it. It was a straight choice of room sharing, or not going. We even shared one cabin when going on cruises. It was a bit of a squeeze, but we managed it.

Oops I meant Geneva airport 😊

we have had really lovely holidays in Brittany with very pleasant temperatures. Germany also has a lot of lovely campsites.
I have been to many Kinderhotels, but read reviews carefully that they cater for teens - the ones I've been to were all basically toddler-centric and there were no kids above about 10yo.
