Can anyone help me find an August holiday with this stupid requirements list please?

Looking for a 10(ish) night August holiday but cannot find anywhere that meets the below.

DC will be 13 and 10.

We can't go anywhere hotter than the UK, both kids are awful in the heat and refuse to leave the room. Spain last year was a nightmare, we managed the pool in the morning, room most of the bloody day and then evening meal in the restaurant.

Both want to swim all day every day. They love everywhere we've been that has an aquadome with slides. I am absolutely sick of spending my entire holiday freezing my arse off in a swimming pool. Could probably compromise with some swimming days.

We've all enjoyed theme park and waterpark holidays: Duinrell, Efteling, Legoland (Windsor and Denmark) Lalandia and Disneyland Paris. Disney world Florida a no-go because of the heat. Looked at Europa Park but it looks looks ridiculously expensive. I'm also a bit sick of theme parks too.

Holiday park wise we've done Center Parcs (UK only but Europe ones look pretty much identical?), Ribby Hall, Butlins, Crieff Hydro and Landal Green parks.

A city break would be great, but DC need separate rooms now from eachother and us. All airbnbs in cities seem to cost more than hotels and hotels don't seem to have anything with 3 rooms apart from presidential suites.

DH is happy with anywhere, so despite being zero help with organising at least he's not adding to the list of no's.

Any ideas very gratefully received!

campsite In Brittany? Lots have a great pool/water park setup

xmasdealhunter · 17/11/2024 21:02

Horsens in Denmark? It's a city so has shops, museums, cafes etc but you're also a 40 min drive to Legoland and around 10 from Aqua Forum Water Park. Lots of hotels there, as well as bed and breakfasts (which might be a shout if you're saying you need 3 rooms), and apartments to rent. Average temp is 21 in August.

Mrsttcno1 · 17/11/2024 21:05

We went to Lanzarote this summer & have been a few other years and when we were there this year it was actually cooler there than it was UK. It’s also windy there so even on the warmer days it never feels really hot (so you need to be on top of sun cream as you don’t realise the heat), so that might be an option?

MJOverInvestor · 17/11/2024 21:07

Copenhagen with swimming in the harbour? The same for Stockholm? If the UK, Fritton Lake is a v posh rewilding Center Parcs sort of thing (there’s a heated swimming pool and lake swimming) or Lough Erne resort in Northern Ireland.

Tenerife and book a hotel that gives u passes for siam park. It's one of the best water parks.

Roompot Resort in Zeeland in the Netherlands - or the neighbouring Water Village that shares the facilities? Right on the beach, with indoor pool complex. Activities laid on. Bike hire. Neeltje Jans Delta Park nearby and seal watching trips. There was a great Go Ape place not far away. There are loads of lovely villages and big sandy beaches in Zeeland. Not miles to drive from Calais or Hoek of Holland. They even have some accommodation right on the beach.

I agree with looking at French campsites - try Yelloh, Les Castels, Sandaya. They have chalets with three bedrooms. Brittany and Normandy are lovely with weather similar to UK.

MissAmbrosia · 17/11/2024 21:30

Center Parcs at De Haan on the Belgian coast. Pool complex but there is a massive sandy beach. Tram goes up and down the coast and there is Boudewijn Seapark, Plopsaland, Bruges, all sorts in Blanckenberg. Some nice beach bars for the grown ups.

What about the Highlands? Lots of outdoor activities and swimming. Would recommend Escape Cottages Scotland for self catering accommodation.

Famously cool in August too.

Eurocamp at De Twee Bruggen or Ter Spegelt in the Netherlands.

Lisanoonan · 17/11/2024 21:41

Switzerland! So beautiful. Great camping parks. And it doesn't get too hot.

Or Copenhagen. It has a theme park.

Out of interest, why do they need separate rooms? That pushes the price up massively. If you have any safety concerns for the two of them in together then absolutely. But if it is more that they prefer it then I would personally be having them share and spend the money differently.

I'm in Spain now. Jesus ill need a holiday to recover from it.

Torrential storms , downpours, floods, reports of missing English tourists in the floods. A sad atmosphere.

Maybe switch to the October half term holidays if you want to go abroad for mild weather. We went to Turkey and it was mid 20's in the day time and a bit chilly in the evenings in late October.

We were in t shirts most of the day but had denim jackets for the evenings. The sun wasn't blazing hot either, it felt like a warm spring day in the UK.
