Road trip to Italy suggestions/ideas summer 2025

I can get 16 days off during the holidays next summer. We've got a pickup truck and a great trailer tent and are thinking of doing a road trip through France to northern Italy (me, DH, DD15 and possibly DD23). Calling in at my dad's house in south west France for two days on the way or way back.

Questions : is it doable in the timeframe?
Where would be great places to stop along the way?
Is it user friendly if you've got a trailer tent as opposed to a camper van?
Any other suggestions for planning?

Yes it’s doable. Calais to Lake Garda is about 14 hours of driving. We split it over 3 days and stopped twice en route. If you can get a morning ferry crossing, then you could probably make it as far as Colmar for your first stop. Colmar is incredible and we could have stayed for quite a few nights. Our second stop was at Lucerne.
