Snow in Europe (not for skiing)- suggestions please

I'm looking for some suggestions of destinations from the clever and well-travelled people of Mumsnet, a group of friends and I would like to see some snow this winter. We don't ski at all, so basically we just want to be around some proper snow, make snowmen, perhaps ride a sleigh and other cheesy stuff like that. We'll be 4 adults, a pre-school child (who has never seen snow and is constantly talking about wanting to see snow) and a dog.

Time: sometime at the end of Jan
Location: somewhere in Europe, should be possible to get to from Southern England by car or train (we don't fly)
Accomodation: ideally self-catering in a big cottage or something like that. We don't care about restaurants/places to go out, but there should be shops nearby.

Any ideas for specific places, please? Thanks.

Annecy would be doable by car and there are lots of snow activities nearby https://www.annecy-aventure.com/fr/activites/neige

How long are you prepared to drive for? Grenoble would work.

As an aside has your dog got it's paperwork sorted?

You can get the Eurostar ski train to Bourg St Maurice and stay in a village near there, Ste Foy is near there. If you want guaranteed snow you may need to go for a higher up village, there are load of little resorts near there, avoid Val d'Isere/Meribel as they will be £££ as the skiing is so good
