Langkawi hotels

We are going to Langkawi next year and looking for any hotel recommendation.

Budget wise I would say The Danna and cheaper. The current ones we are looking at is Danna, Pelangi, Berjaya and Westin.

The current front runners are Danna and Pelangi.

Any recommendations at all?
Any hotel we haven't considered and should?
Does the Pelangi still have the water slides and kids bits? I can see the reviews and picture mention it but their website has no pictures or mentions so I'm not sure if they've got rid of them since then.

Any advice and recommendations is truly appreciated.

We're travelling with one DC aged 4.

I’ve been to Langkawi and returning next year. I stayed at St Regis in a Plunge Room. Loved it. Also near a few attractions. We are staying at The Ritz Carlton in February.

Can thoroughly recommend the Danna but went as adults
We didn't realise until quite late that there are some little bars and restaurants just outside the resort you can easily walk to as the hotel restaurant is expensive and a bit dull

We went as a couple to the Danna for a few nights too, and also recommend it for a couple. We stuffed ourselves silly feasted at breakfast so didnt eat lunch, but dinner there was good. We also walked to the little row of bars/eateries and ate there one evening but were not inspired and returned to the hotel for our last night.

There was not a lot to do in walking distance from the hotel and a bit of sea was roped off for swimming, and i dont recall much 'stuff' for kids (but i am a bit like the washing liquid ads now, "keep away from children", so I am not a good witness!).

When we went up to the Skybridge we booked a glass bottomed SkyCab/cable car but what we didnt realise was it meant we could effectively jump the queue as the glass bottomed ones are every 6 car or so, and most people buy a solid bottomed ride and arent put in a glass one, so we went straight to the front of our queue and jumped in. Might be worth considering.

We went Dec 19 so bits may have changed after Covid.

Oh I hope you have a fantastic time, I did, but I went solo & 20 years ago.

Way too long ago to be any help to you, sorry!

Thank you so much!
I'm definitely leaning towards The Danna right now.
Is there lots of places to eat outside the hotel that are easy to get to by foot? Or would it be more of a taxi journey?

I recall that there were a few maybe 3/4 places just outside the hotel which were very nice.
The hotel had a happy hour which was nice as booze was v pricey- that may not matter to you but we enjoy a drink or two!!
The hotel had one restaurant as I recall the food was b nice but I guess it depends on how long you're staying.
I would definitely return

I've not been myself but my parents went every year pre-covid, they spent two weeks at the Casa del Mar and two weeks at the Danna, and loved them both.

Hi I’ve just got back from Pelangi beach hotel. The kids pool was out of action as they were doing it up. It will be ready for when you go. We used the cascade pool which was still great for the kids. They have a small farm in front of the kids club where you can feed the animals. Room service was amazing as well as the option for two types of breakfast at the two restaurants. You can get a Malaysian breakfast at Spice restaurant which is by the main lobby. We also had dinner at the grill restaurant which sits on the beach and watched the sunset.

We had two rooms by the pool which had an adjoining door. The rooms were lovely with a big bathrooms.

Make sure you download the grab app for taxis and takeaways. It their version of uber.

This is so helpful!!

We have ended up booking Pelangi.
The Danna definitely felt fancier but I think the Pelangi felt a bit better suited this time around especially with DS's age.

Very excited!
