Baby's passport alternative delivery address

Has anyone recently applied for a child's first passport and has it delivered to an alternative address?
I've just applied for one on behalf of DS online at gov.uk website but I was only asked for the address of birth and current address, not a delivery address. We won't be at the "current address" when it will be sent in 3 weeks so I'm worried that we may miss delivery!
Thank you

It needs to be delivered to your current address otherwise it could be ordered by anyone interested in ID theft. Are you moving home? Set up post forwarding.

When I applied for a first passport a couple of months ago it arrived in a couple of days once they had everything they needed for the application

Thanks for the reply, the thing is, we are moving out of the current address next week so that will be before the estimated delivery time of 3 weeks from when everything for the passport to be issued is ready and there was no indication that it has to be the same address that we are going to be in that time - surely Home Office will have ways of accommodating to such circumstances but there is no way to change or update the address...

You need to pay for mail redirection if you are moving

That is really quick - did you receive a notification from Royal Mail about your delivery at all? Was it signed for / tracked? Thinking about changing delivery options to collect in person but not sure if how it should work.

Yeah had a royal mail delivery notification. It was tracked from memory - just came with the post and didn't need signing for.

I don't think Royal Mail deliver the passports back. So redirection won't work.

I'd wait until you move house

Our last passport was sent by Royal Mail. They just post it through the door. They do notify you and give delivery options

Call or online chat with the passport office. I found them quite helpful recently.

They are often delivered in a car by a courier so mail forwarding may not work. Can you explain to the new residents?
