Copenhagen & Malmo

I’m trying to get an idea of how much train fares are between Copenhagen Airport > Copenhagen > Malmo Central & then back to Copenhagen Airport

Also whether I need to buy tickets for specific trains or can just get a ticket & use it any time that day?

Thank you!

Train fare from airport to Malmö is £14. You can buy the tickets at the station machines for travel there and then.

Have meatballs in the food hall in Malmö 😋

Malmö Saluhall

Malmö Saluhall är en självklar destination för dig som älskar bra råvaror och god mat. För det blandade, brokiga, kreativa och roliga Malmö.

Buy the ticket at the station. You can't reserve anyway. It's not expensive by UK standards (it's not dirt cheap. It's reasonable. It's very very easy. I freak out travelling and genuinely even an idiot (me) can do it.

I don't know your reasons for going but tbh unless you have a particular reason to go, Copenhagen is a FAR better city.

RedToothBrush · 02/11/2024 20:55

I've travelled a lot round Europe and getting the train from the airport in Copenhagen is genuinely just about the easiest city in Europe to get the train.

Malmo is easy to get to by train from Copenhagen, but there's not much there to do (and we have family there so visit often!)

This.

There really really isn't much there!

So so much more to do and see in Copenhagen. I wouldn't go back to Malmö unless I had another event to go to but I 100% would love to go back to Copenhagen.

We’re planning to visit the Tivoli Christmas market & we’ve got tickets for https://www.malmoopera.se/forestallningar/joyride-the-musical-en on Saturday evening! Since we all liked Roxette in the 90s, this seemed like the perfect pre-Christmas mini break 😀

Just been to Copenhagen with kids. It was amazing. And we did a day in Sweden, too. I’d also heard Malmo wasn’t all that so we stayed on the train another 20 mins and spent a day in Lund, which was amazing. A nice chilled out break from Copenhagen and tons of great museums, good food hall etc. it’s a university town with a cool cathedral. Loads to do. Just head for the tourist office and ask for the maps and some recommendations. The trains are four times an hour from central station and so cheap! Also recommend the Copenhagen Card if you’re there a few days. It includes all transport in the city plus free entry to most of the big tourist attractions. Have fun!

RedToothBrush · 02/11/2024 21:35

That's perfect and honestly all you need for a reason to go to Malmö.

We found it more expensive in Malmö than Copenhagen. I'd look at the times for last train back to Copenhagen tbh.

RedToothBrush · 02/11/2024 21:44

We actually stayed in Lund rather Malmö for one night (did two nights in Copenhagen). It's a small but pretty town but tbh we preferred it to Malmö in the end for various reasons.

If you want to go out for a meal, then the meatpacking district is very good and trendy (can be expensive but then pretty much everywhere is). But it does get very busy.

Tivoli and the Christmas market are fab. It's chocolate box Christmas as you imagine in a fantasy.

But I would stress just how cold it can be in December. You WILL need thermals for a day around Tivoli.

The Round tower is fun and relatively cheap. You can also ice skate (highly recommend this). There are several places to do this and it's reasonably priced. Other cheap things to do are watch the changing of the guard (it's best to wait for them when they LEAVE the barracks as it gets very busy and it's not easy to see when you get to the other end). There also a windmill that's pretty cool to visit.

Honestly I love it. A fav city of mine.

Thanks Red, that’s useful to know!

Download the skånetrafiken app for train details between CPH and malmo. You can buy tickets on it too.

I’m always amazed that my train ticket from Copenhagen to past Malmo is less than my pret breakfast in Gatwick airport!

Perfect. I love a train app, thank you!

I knew MN would be able to help me on this.

App also has details on any delays or problems. (There was a major incident whilst I was there which resulted in the closure of the bridge for several hours).

But you don't NEED the app.

You just reminded me, I still have the app on my phone. There are trains tonight every half hour until midnight then once an hour all night back to Copenhagen... So it's a better service than most places in the UK!

Updating to say we had a brilliant time at the Tivoli yesterday so thanks for everyone’s advice!

Also the Roxette tribute Joyride musical at Malmo Opera House was FANTASTIC. They have English subtitles on a screen above the stage so that bit’s no problem. Its an easy trip from Copenhagen so if anyone’s staying in that area, see if you can get tickets.
