Italy or Crete?

Two kids, aged 9 and 10. Looking for swimming in the sea, ancient ruins and B&B with a pool. Where is better for this and not too expensive, Crete or Italy? Do you have any hotel recommendations please? Happy to get a car.

I think Crete will be cheaper than Italy, and you should aim to be in the Heraklion area for easy access to the best ancient ruins. Have a look at Candia Park village apartments. They’re on a hillside that leads down to a sandy beach. It’s about 5 mins drive from Aghios Nikolaos and roughly double that for Elounda – both have shops and restaurants.
