Too late to buy summer clothes?

DexysMidniteRunners · 28/10/2024 08:11

Morning all!
I go on holiday in 2 weeks to a wedding abroad. I bought some clothes for the OH which took over a month to get here, but they've turned up now and none fit.
What can I do or where can I go that still have summer clothes for men that I can buy?
Thanks in advance

Where does he normally buy his clothes from? Many have sales sections he can see if there’s anything he likes. He might not be able to get a whole holiday wardrobe from one shop but several at this point.

does he not have summer clothes from the summer?

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 28/10/2024 08:15

Also side note, why are you buying his clothes? Did it not occur to him over the summer you were going to a wedding in early November somewhere hot and he’d need clothes?

if he’s failed to organise himself, isn’t this his problem?

Vinted ??

Smittenkitchen · 28/10/2024 08:16

Vinted is a good option. You can get things new with tags if you're not keen on second hand. You can search by brand, type of item (t-shirt, shorts, etc.) Otherwise sales sections online as suggested by PP could be good. But brands with physical shops in the UK (if you are in the UK!) to avoid delivery taking as long as last time.

Doggymummar · 28/10/2024 08:20

It's his problem, not yours !

SquigglePigs · 28/10/2024 08:27

A lot of shops (Next, M&S etc) will have winter clothes in the shops but a fuller range including summer stuff online.

Bjorkdidit · 28/10/2024 08:28

Another one who can't understand why you're buying clothes for your OH (unless he's unable to shop for himself due to disabilities of course).

But as well as Vinted, M&S have year round holiday wear for women, so I presume they'd have the same for men, so he could have a look there.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 28/10/2024 08:35

Another question - what does he actually need?

Mountain warehouse tend to have shorts and walking sandals, t shirts he can get all year round from most men’s wear shops. Swimming trunks at this time of year he’s probably best shopping in sports clothing shops.

does he need smart clothes heat like chinos etc?
ight be worth him (not you!) googling the individual things he needs and looking in the online sales sections for shops he normally shops in.

but this is his issue to fix.

DexysMidniteRunners · 28/10/2024 08:35

Look, I'm struggling. He doesn't like buying stuff. He is quite happy to go with his old worn stuff but I don't want to see him in his years old stuff! He is going to the Do under pressure. He works all the hours and no does not have time. I agree he should be shopping but ums and arrs about it.
I need help not women saying He Should Do It. I want him to look nice and he will pay for it. I have time he doesn't. Why shouldn't I do it for someone who I love but struggles in a world of NT people!

I'm trying to buy stuff for a winter sun holiday at the moment and am looking for both of us.

Before the "why doesn't he buy his own clothes" brigade start whinging 1. We both need clothes may as well share postage

  1. DH does plenty round the house. I don't consider online clothes shopping a chore, it's quite nice, I am happy to do this while he cleans the bathroom, hoovers and washes the pots.

To answer the question, lots of places have sales on to shift the old summer stock, men's stuff moves more slowly than women's so there's still plenty around with good discounts. What does he need?

For practical stuff mountain warehouse and Regatta still have summer shorts etc. Lands End, Seasalt, Joules, Cotton Traders for casual wear. I haven't looked for smarter stuff but M&S would probably be worth a try.

strawberryblue · 28/10/2024 08:48

Have a look on next clearance still lots of summer bits for men

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 28/10/2024 08:53

OP - what does he need. “Summer stuff” doesn’t cut it - what does he have that you consider acceptable and what do you want to replace? Where is his other stuff from, does it fit (even if it’s scruffy) and have you tried looking on those shops websites?

You won’t get to do one order for a full wardrobe so you need to break it down. Anywhere that sold summer clothes for men in the summer will probably still have a few things in their sale section, they may not be his size so worth looking at lots.

also worth thinking if he really does need everything - eg does he have shorts that might not be the nicest, but put with a fresh new t shirt would look good. (M&S, Uniqlo, John Lewis are all good places to look for plain t shirts that will have non-faded colours).

doss he have something to wear for the wedding?

DexysMidniteRunners · 28/10/2024 08:55

I'm thinking lots of tops for a smart hotel with many decent restaurants
We have swim wear and enough shorts I think

But also- if he’s happy wearing old comfy clothes on holiday, let him wear his old comfy clothes.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 28/10/2024 09:01

Right tops - polo shirts ok? Lots in white stuff. also Uniqlo and John Lewis. On John Lewis you can filter by sleeve length if you want short sleeved (and therefore more casual) shirts.

white stuff also have a good range of mens chinos.

if he’s got plain bottom half stuff - like shirts and thinner trousers, a couple of new shirts should be ok.

does he need summery shoes? Loafers or deck shoes? Again John Lewis might have some. Mountain warehouse for walking sandals/flipflops.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 28/10/2024 09:03

For delivery issues - John Lewis will do click and collect to Waitrose stores. Makes it much quicker. M&S also do store delivery even if that store doesn’t have much of a mens wear section.

mnahmnah · 28/10/2024 09:05

Plenty on the Next website and they do next day delivery
