Funchal hotel but self catering

Looking for recommendations for 5 star adult accommodation in Funchal, self catering but with breakfast etc also available. I would like the option to cook, but also to eat at the accommodation especially breakfast. Oh and ideally sea views! I would love to hear anyone’s suggestions!

This is several years ago, but we had a sea view room at the Hotel Porto Santa Maria in Funchal town, which had a kitchenette. 4 star I think. Great breakfast. Might be worth checking out.

I can highly recommend here www.threehouse.com/. Gorgeous apartments with a posh restaurant on site. It's in the heart of Funchal rather than the hotels area which is a couple of km out, but we preferred that as we had access to all the town restaurants and sights.

We stayed here. We had B&B (amazing breakfast!) but we had access to the kitchen and could use all the facilities etc. We had cheese/snacks/cold meats and wine on the terrace one evening and it was lovely.

The house was beautiful and the owners were lovely. I left a pair of earrings behind and they happily posted them to me.

It was an easy walk down to Funchal, but we did taxi back in the evenings (it was a steep hill!).

It was good to be away from the big hotels and the 'Saga' feeling you get near the port/casino.

Thanks so much for the replies so far. I’m just on my way out so will have a proper read and check the suggestions with a coffee later!

I agree with Hotel Porto Santa Maria, stayed there twice. Adults only, can't recall 4* or 5.*
There was a proper fridge & 2-ring hob, + pans, crockery & cutlery as far as I recall.
It's well-located in the old town, breakfast is included, & there's a bookable buffet lunch & dinner if you want it. (We didn't bother, there are plenty of better options nearby.)

The Reid Palace ( I think it's called now ) I would love to visit, local history buff here

We stayed at a self catering apartment where you could get breakfast or all meals at the restaurants which was part of PortoBay group, was a while back though. They have several in Funchal by sea.

Totally agree with this post, we were there in May. We had a suite with the little kitchenette, but didn’t use it. It’s now the only hotel on Madeira that we’d go to. The Portobay group have fab hotels.

Thank you @Beebumble2. I’ve looked at everyone’s recommendations and that hotel seems ideal, and in my budget. Madeira also looks amazing!
