Hi there,

I’m going to Paris for a couple of days in December-I’d love to find an hotel near the station, good and not too expensive. Any recommendations? Thank you !

Hotel Hor Europe is pretty reasonable for a 4 star hotel and has a nice garden area.
Just a word or caution, the area around Gare du Nord is quite sketchy at night, but so long as you're not hanging around and do the regular safety stuff (look confident, don't talk to people, etc.) you should be fine. Take a taxi if you’re travelling after dark.

Just go a few stops on the metro and stay somewhere nicer

Can't help with a hotel, but if you like authentic South Asian food, go out of the station, turn left up the hill (rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis) and take the second right into rue Cail, which is a microcosm of the Indian subcontinent with loads of cheap eateries. It's only about 400m walk.

We stayed at 25 hours hotel which is directly opposite and it was great. Lovely bar and restaurant upstairs and felt very safe.

Check out website: www.seat61.com, he usually has lots of good recommendations for hotels near railway stations.

to echo @TossedSaladandSE , the area around Gare du Nord really isn't nice. Jump on a metro a few stops or grab a taxi over towards Opéra metro and there are tonnes of hotels in a nicer spot

We stayed at the 25 hours hotel opposite the station. I liked the area, and we didn't experience any issues. Metro right outside the hotel too

We stayed in a budget ibis that was fine

Agree 25 hours is directly opposite so was great to get straight in there - nice hotel!
