Would you stay in Biarritz or Bayonne?

We've booked a house in the Pyrenees in the summer. We'll be flying into Biarritz, and planning to spend three nights pottering around near the coast before heading up into the mountains. Can't decide whether to stay in Biarritz or Bayonne. As far as I can see, Biarritz would have the benefit of walkable beach, but Bayonne looks prettier and less pricey. I'm leaning towards Bayonne but would welcome views. (We're planning to spend the time on maybe a half day on the beach, plus general exploring and sightseeing. We would have a car. Two teenage kids.)

Biarritz all day long.. they are quite different and I admit I have never been to the beach in Bayonne but the one in Biarritz is beyond amazing. How long are you going for?

Both are lovely - Biarritz is fancier, old money, a bit faded glory. You can do surf lessons at the beach. Bayonne nice to potter around, great restaurants. You could do one or two nights in each - we did a couple of nights in Biarritz before heading into the Pyrenees, and then a night in Bayonne before flying home.

Great idea, thank you! Both sound lovely.

Both are beautiful , but Biaritz has the beach obviously. Why not do a day trip to Bayonne? St Jean de Luz a bit further down the coast is also lovely. You’ll have a wonderful time.
