Anyone been to both destinations above and offer any opinions? Can't decide which one to book.

Before anyone decides to comment and say most people can't afford such lavish holidays, please scroll on past. We work hard and carefully manage our finances to allow such luxuries.

I have. If you have a lot of sex and want to be in bed by 9pm, Maldives. If you are a normal person and like site seeing and nightlife after 9pm Mahe, Prasline is also dead at night

Maldives is specifically excellent for diving/snorkelling
What's the focus of your holiday?

livingonhomemadesoup · 20/10/2024 13:36

@user47 probably just to chill and enjoy the beaches and blissfulness of it all

Maldives was stunning and a perfect, relaxing, and blissful holiday. We had an amazing time and I'd happily go back.

I've been to the Maldives twice, just for a 4 or 5 day stay on both occasions. Maldives you are kind of stuck on an island, you can't escape apart from on excursions. I am fine with that for a few days, but it wouldn't suit me for 2 weeks. The resorts are all luxurious which ever one you pick, but they all have different pros and cons. I like a resort with a choice of ala carte dining, I can't deal with a buffet every day, and I like to be able to snorkel off the beach. I also like that the rooms are usually individual little villas, so everyone is quite spread out. I have only visited resorts ones near Male as sea plane transfers take time and you don't have that on a 4 day visit, but you sacrifice the deserted island feel a bit. I haven't been to the Seychelles, but I think you would have more options to wander out of the hotel and eat in local restaurants, explore by bus etc, you probably can't snorkel off the beach though. It really depends what you want.

We didn't like the Maldives (contraversial). Yea it's heaven on earth... but we're drinkers so felt very judged and also very restricted! Only the rubbish drinks were included. Seychelles or mairitius any day.

I was looking into booking a holiday in the Maldives until I started reading about the problems with massive cockroaches in the tourist huts. Apparently they've have grown more numerous there since the pandemic when a lot of the wooden huts lay unoccupied for ages. That put me off completely- I can't stand the horrible things.

@Doggymummar literally my dream holiday 😂😂

Justwantosay · 20/10/2024 20:23

I haven't been to Maldives so can't compare the two, but I've stayed at the Raffles resort on Praslin and it was lovely. We went on a few excursions to other islands as well, I forget their names but one was a bird sanctuary, the other, giant tortoises and turtles.

I’d pick Maldives but I love snorkelling and diving and it’s spectacular there. (Nb not all resorts have good snorkelling). If I didn’t like these, I don’t know if I’d pick the Maldives as there is not a lot else to do. But plenty do go there and don’t dive or snorkel!!

What time of year do you want to go? Dec to April is best for Maldives. Seychelles is better in our summer, as I recall.

Twilightstarbright · 21/10/2024 07:56

Seychelles has a lot more to do - we did 3 islands in ten days, lots of exploring, nature trails, boat trips. We are heading to the Maldives for Christmas and the plan is to snorkel and lie on sun loungers. Quite a different trip.

CatherinedeBourgh · 21/10/2024 07:59

When would you be going? Check the weather in both places, both are best at different times of year.

I've been to the Seychelles but never made it to the Maldives as it's best in skiing season, I only ever want to go to the beach in (our) summer.
