One night to spend between Amsterdam and Paris

Hi,

Hoping some MN Eurocampers/ frequent France travellers can offer me some suggestions.

Next summer we've book a bit of a road trip in Belgium / Netherlands and France.

We have one unaccounted day/night. We will be leaving from Duinrell which is quite near Leiden in the Netherlands on the Wednesday morning, and need to head towards Paris.

We'd like to find somewhere to spend a day and night, but is less then 2h from DLP, where we're booked into for Thursday onwards.

If it hit any war/battlefields sites, even better for my history-daft son.

Two adults, 18yr old history buff, two teen girls who enjoy active sports / visiting cities and towns / museums. All fairly easy pleased.

Where would you recommend we go for the day/night?

Ypres is a fascinating place to visit. Great museum and lots of WW1 sites and cemeteries. The Last Post at the Menin Gate is amazing. Second also Amiens or Arras. By another route, the War Museum at Bastogne is very good and could by combined with Ardennes (e.g. Grottes de Han Sur Lesse)

It's 3 hours to DLP rather than 2, but Waterloo, just south of Brussels, is the mother of all battlefield locations and it's only a small detour from the straightest route from Leiden to Paris, unlike Bastogne or Verdun say.
