Luxor or Cairo from Hurghada?

We've just booked a holiday at Christmas to Hurghada, wasn't meant to be a 'proper' Egypt holiday with sightseeing etc, just some winter sun.
But have discovered you can do a day trip to either Luxor or Cairo from Hurghada to see either the pyramids/egyptian museum or valley of the kings/karnak.
we were thinking Luxor as it's closer but Cairo would be a flight so really the same overall travel time.
Has anyone done these as a day trip from Hurghada? If you had the choice, which would you go for?

we'll definitely only do one because we're only there for a week and it'll be an intense day of travelling.

We did a day trip to Cairo from Hurghada. We flew and we were picked up at 4am and didnt return til 9pm so it was a long day.

Ther trip was well organised and we did the musuem, the pyramids and the sphynx. We also did a stop at a perfumery and a papyrus shop, both of which were very pushy sales wise which made me feel uncomfortable. The day was very organised and our guide in Cairo was lovely, and really knowledgeable.

I am glad we did it, but it was £££. I am glad we flew though, 4 hours on a bus each was sounded horrific.

We also did a cruise on the nile which was fun, I forgot that bit!

I've never been to Cairo but Luxor was absolutely amazing. I’d love to get back there someday.

We did the coach trip to Luxor from Hurghada. It was an early start and a long journey but so worth it. We went to Hethshepat temple, valley of the kings, crossed the Nile by boat and Karnak temple.
The bus ride itself was interesting, going through villages and seeing how ordinary Egyptians live.

@ThePoshUns did you feel you missed out by not seeing the pyramids? I know there's amazing stuff at Luxor of course, I think the kids would prefer to see the pyramids but DH has seen the pyramids before years ago but not been to Luxor so he'd vote the other way. I don't mind one way or another, I think they both look incredible!

We did Luxor. Loved it.

I do and will likely go back at some point to see them. Like you we only had the week there and I don't recall Cairo being an option at the time.

Some of the coach trips I've seen pick up at 2:30am! Not up for that, it'd definitely be a flight to Cairo. Both trips are roughly the same travel time and the Cairo one only a bit more expensive so there's not really anything in that to sway us one way or another.

We had our two DSs with us they were about 11 and 13, they enjoyed it. Especially going down into the tombs at Valley of the Kings.

Done both. Luxor wins by a mile. The tombs and temples are mind boggling.
