Last year we spent the last week in Aug in a self catering villa in the region of Le Marche (great place) www.azienda-cerqueto.com/ and then the first week in Sep at Villa Pia. It was a great combination. I'm glad we did the self catering the first week and Villa Pia second simply because DS is an only child and if he had had all the fun of other children to play with the first week and none the second we might have had problems. Doing it the other way round was fun.

That being said much as we enjoyed Villa Pia I'm not sure I'd rush back. Why? our villa the first week was in a to die for location with amazing views, in contrast the Villa Pia pool wasn't as nice. We've done several ski chalet holidays pre DS and are used to communal dining etc but I think we may have grown out of it IYSWIM (it might just be our advancing age etc!). That being said the buffet lunches are spectacular (dinner was a bit more mixed) and the 24 hour kitchen access is great.

Other than that, yes DS loved Villa Pia and would love to go back and spend all summer there. I think a combination of self catering and Villa Pia is just right and gives you the best of both worlds.

Going back to the title of your thread my advice is do it the other way round ie. villa first, Viall Pia second.

Heathcliffscathy · 24/04/2008 21:34

oh thanks for that, good advice...we're looking for somewhere peaceful but walking distance to nice place to eat/bars/bakery etc...

We went to Villa pia last summer and had a fab time. Would really recommend it, but would also say to go there the second week and self cater the first as otherwise it would be too much of a shock to the system after having everything done for you at villa pia.
