How strict are they with dimensions? I stupidly just bought a lovely holdall from Vinted. The dimensions are 45cm 34cm and 20cm. It is a wide bag as apposed to a tall case. Thanks

I would turn it around in the overhead storage.

We flew with TUI earlier this year and it was my first time flying for many years so I was a bit panicky.

I had a rucksack which I measured several times as it was just smaller than the described size, but they didn't appear to check it for size at all.

It can be hit and miss. We flew with Tui recently and noticed them checking the size of some people’s hand luggage - mainly those caving bag on wheels type cases.

Ah, no answer. I might risk it

I generally find as long as it doesn't have wheels you'll be fine. I've found they measure the wheeled bags and not rucksacks. They also measure more on busier flights. Pissed me off when DH was able to take his giant and much larger rucksack than my wheelie bag on the plane and they insisted "all bags with wheels" needed to be checked. I took out everything I needed (at their suggestion) and put it in a carrier bag. This turned out to be everything in the bag, because we were only away for one night and didn't want to end up in my destination with no clothes and everything else in the bag was for the flight (eg book and snacks). Honestly this was a tiny wheeled case (not even sure how I came to have it), couldn't fit a laptop in if you tried, classed as a "personal item" in terms of dimensions and fits under an airplane seat. DH had our joint wash bag. I use a larger handbag now and never had it measured.

It will probably be fine, but if you know it's bigger than allowed, there's a chance they may make you put it in the hold, whatever anyone says.

What size are you allowed? The only dimensions I can find for Tui is 55x40x20, which its within

Doesn’t matter, it’s within the limit for all 3 dimensions.

TickingAlongNicely · 17/10/2024 19:05

Basically, if it fits inside the cage, its fine. They don't care which way.

Brilliant. Thank you
