esim for USA

Can someone explain using an esim to me like I'm an idiot please? Going to the USA which isn't covered on my phone contract for data roaming. It's a £7+ charge per day on my phone contract to use my contract data allowance while there but buying an esim seems much cheaper. I'm just not entirely clear what that covers me for.....most are data only so does that mean I wouldn't be able to receive calls or texts on my UK number? Also, can anyone recommend a reputatable company or website to purchase from?

I used a BNEsim in Turkey this month. Data only so no phone number but WhatsApp calls worked perfectly. It was easy to install and very cheap - even before using the discount code. It’s easy to install using the app - install the eSIM before you leave, switch it on in phone settings and switch your primary sim off before landing. By the time I reached the baggage hall I had data.

I looked at Holafly and Nomad before going with BNE and it was price that swayed me. You can get an eSIM where credit doesn’t expire for a little more money. I didn’t bother

oh they hadn't come up in my search but prices look good, thanks!

I just get mine from amazon if it's cheapest place to get one. Typically t-mobile one as I never had issues with it and yes only for data but use WhatsApp for calls if need be.

Make sure u read the instructions as you normally have to fill something in so they can activate it for you so isn't just buy it and pack it in your bag, open it up and check what you need to do to get it ready

Oh just realised it's an esim but the same process will apply other than others poster who said you need to install it

The same wholesaler supplies both BNEsim and Nomad, so that's interesting!

@MiddleAgedDread BNEsim discount code is GLOBAL30 for first purchase. No - I don’t get anything from that, it’s easily found online.

It was the first time I’d used an eSIM so I bought the cheapest. If it didn’t work I planned on getting a Holafly one when I was on hotel WiFi but I didn’t need to

@Jins it says they use the Tmobile network in the US so should be ok. Thanks for the code!

If you need any help installing it just message me but it’s really straightforward. If you put your date of travel as the start date you won’t see the eSIM in your account until the day before.
