When to book France flights (plus - car hire at Nice or Marseille?)

Hi,

Wondering when people typically book their flights for summer holidays - they're already fairly expensive for the last 2 weeks of August, when we will be going to South of France. Not sure if we should off booking until potential Black Friday sales...or just bite the bullet and book now?

Also - does anyone have experience of car hire at either Nice or Marseille? We can fly into either, Nice is a slightly shorter drive and the flights are a bit cheaper, too. From what I've read, though, Marseille car pick-up is in terminal, vs a shuttle required at Nice. From what I remember, Nice is such a small airport, doesn't feel like a dealbreaker (but we will have kids this time!).

I would keep my eye on them from now until black Friday. Flights tend to only go up in £10-£20 increments so won't be a huge amount. Hopefully there's a sale on then.

But I wouldn't wait much longer than that.
Summer flights usually always sell out.

Though saying that I once paid 300 for a flight, price hadn't changed much in 7 months since booking. The week before we were due to fly, it dropped down to 75. You can never really know.
