Thailand December 2025

After reading the thread where people told of their best holidays I really liked the sound of Thailand. I have managed to convince DH for next year and then realised I have absolutely no idea where to start. I was thinking of just going to the travel agents and asking them to sort, does this sound the best way? Is there anything I should be asking for? Better areas etc? There will probably be 5 of us, 4 adults and 1 teenager. Thanks for any help.

Totally depends how ‘adventurous’ you want to be! Are you happy doing a bit of a fly and flop with a little local exploring around your resort? If so, travel agent is a good shout, or a package deal – Tui has lots of options around Khao Lak, which is a quieter area north of Phuket.

If you’re keen to stay in a few places, including islands, definitely look into booking yourself. December is peak season along the west coast and the islands between Krabi and Phuket are beautiful – take a look at katie_ellison on Instagram who did this very trip last December.

We are planning same trip for 2025, too. We have always been to Thailand/Indonesia via flying in and out of Singapore as we have family. But next tome we will fly in and out of Bangkok and spend a few days exploring (eating) there.

Thanks for your reply.

I think I am just nervous booking it myself and something going wrong/me making a mistake. I would love to visit other islands but I think it may be too much for me to organise. I’m guessing if you just go to one place like khao lak then there is enough there for 2 weeks or so? Or would I be better doing a week there and a week somewhere else? And if I were only doing to separate areas a week each which 2 would you recommend?

Sorry for all the questions.

We did 9 days in Phuket and it was the best place I've ever been

We stayed in Patong (party central) for 4 nights then went to Bangtao Beach, which is further up the island about 40 mins in a taxi.
Bangtao is beautiful with some stunning beaches and restaurants

We did boat trips, all organised when we got there and hired a boat for ourselves on the last day and went to Phi Phi

Don't over think it, or make a crazy itinerary, Thailand is very chilled and you can do most of it there

No worries, it has been a while since I’ve been and we did the islands rather than Khao Lak so I’m not sure there’s enough there for 2 weeks…really depends what you like doing! There are national parks and of course loads of beaches.

A good gauge is what you usually do as a holiday , eg an all inclusive and not really leaving the hotel?

I think 2 weeks in just Khao Lak would be too long. You could look at…

Bangkok for a couple nights > Khao Lak one week > stay in Phuket as a jump off for the islands or you could get a car transfer down to Ao Nang or Krabi and then you can do a boat day trip around a few of the islands.

Also depends on the ages of your travellers and budget, some of the boat transfers can be less than comfortable so if older grandparents are part of the group, you might want to see if you can book private tours/transfers, which can work out not much more for 5 people anyway.

You could also consider flying out of Singapore or Kuala Lumpur at the end of the trip and spend the second week in Malaysia, eg Malacca for a change of scenery and sightseeing.

Audley travel or intrepid have sample itineraries, I have used their websites to work out what I’d like to do.

I think for first time in Thailand I’d consider Bangkok, Chiang Mai and a beach resort- you could easily fly to Krabi or Phuket. From Phuket you can easily get to Khao Lak. I massively prefer Khao Lak to Phuket but Phuket is a far bigger developed place so it depends what you want.

Maybe Bangkok , Chiang Mai and Koh Samui.
Easy to organise internal flights.
Enjoy it's fab.
