Hello, We live on the Beds/Herts border and dont want to travel too far so are looking for something within a 2 hour radius. We need 2 bedrooms as we have a baby and would like somewhere within walking distance of a village/pub. Would like to do as little driving as possible once there.

Thanks in advance

Ickworth House have apartments - tis lovely but pricey although it looks as if they are doing special deals with some babysitting thrown in!

Not far out of Bury either.

how about this or this one in bury

SandyChick · 23/04/2008 18:44

Thanks, Ickworth House is our back up plan. They have a cottage available for when we want to go but would rather a little cottage in a village really.

OK - will have a think about nice villages!

In the meantime Wyken Vineyards are lovely and have a farmers market on saturday mornings and do a lovely lunch! Really nice gardens too!

Culford is just outside Bury, can't remember if there is a pub there though...

I live in a small village just outside Bury St Eds
Give me some more info and I'll make some suggestions!

There is a self-catering bungalow in the next village to me, very nice, and 3 mins walk from the pub which does excellent meals.

unfortunately with this area you're not going to find anywhere that has much within walking distance, it's mostly small villages with a pub and a playground but not much else.

I can recommend blaizecottages.com for cottages in Lavenham which is gorgeous and has pubs and restauants. V close to Bury st edmonds. We had a wonderful stay there and the quality of the cottage was excellent....

PillockOfTheCommunity - thank you. It doesnt have to be in Bury St Edmunds. We live in SG17 and dont want to travel more than 2 hours so Bury is 2 hours from us. Am looking for anything that is baby friendly. Its for this weekend and know that Ickworth House is available but just looking at other options/types of accom.

this is place I know. It's in Hessett. They're really lovely people, I went to school with their daughter.

Do you mean this weekend as in 2 days time? If you do you could come on the village walk in my village

this is a lovely house, just minutes from Abbey Gardens and central Bury, including all the pubs

this is also in the town centre, and is owned by a couple my mum is friends with from years ago!

this is in Horringer, the village where Ickworth Park is found (which happens to be where I grew up, I love that village!)

this is also in Hessett

this is an amazing place, in my village, really friendly owners and right on our village green, with 2 pubs in sight, one of which is very family friendly

this is in Rattlesden, a really nice little village nearby

That should give you some to think about

If I can help with anything else, let me know
