I agree with the poster above regarding winter sun being good for your mental health. In recent years I’ve managed to get away mid November and mid February to the canaries, basic apartment so nowt fancy but some sun. After years of suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder my winter is now only effectively December and January broken up by Christmas. So much easier to get thru than thinking you have to endure October to the end of March.
Four weeks to my next break and on the look out for next February deal

I’m exactly the same-a week in Tenerife in December carried me through the rest of the winter without a mood dip since we started doing it-it’s pretty much non negotiable.
like you, cheap and cheerful, it’s literally all about the sun
Even my GP says she’d
give me it on prescription if she could!

Where did you go in tenerife?

Jeezitneverends · 12/10/2024 21:12

@Roundthemoon we go to an apartment complex in Torviscas called Garden City-we book direct with the owner, we’ve been going there for a few years. December will be our 3rd visit there this year.
There’s a good Facebook group where a lot of the owners post

We are going to Hawaii in January, staying on my favorite beach in all the world, Lanikai beach. I just can't wait. It is truly idyllic.

I'm away at the moment and it's lovely. Canary Islands.

I've never been skiing. It seems a bit dangerous. Is it?

Not at all if done properly. Have lessons with a qualified ski instructor and stay on pistes that are within your ability. My DC learned at 6 and 8 years old. 6 was the right age for DC2, they'd have struggled any earlier, DC1 would have been fine from about 2 or 3.

I highly recommend it. I feel most at peace in the mountains. I can't wait to be back.

Do people start learning as adults?

Japan in October!! 😳 Very nervous and feel completely underprepared. It was a bit of a spontaneous booking

Good for you! Don't feel daunted - Japan is such an easy place to travel, no need to go crazy planning and booking things. Half the pleasure is in walking around and soaking in the atmosphere. I'm back a week and feeling a bit down and am already thinking about going back. Incredible country and people and so easy to be a tourist.

Yes!!! DH and I were 38! On our second trip we saw a lady in her 60s having her first lesson. Give it a go!

Lovely Puerto Mogan Gran Canaria for Christmas and New Year.

Fraley · 13/10/2024 01:02

Santorini in 12 days, only booked yesterday & got an absolute bargain!

TheChippendenSpook · 13/10/2024 01:28

I'm flying to Rhodes in a few hours. I've been awake since 4am yesterday and I'm exhausted. I'm in a lovely hotel bed but I hate flying so I'm feeling very nervous and can't sleep.

I also hate flying.

Next time I'm going to take the eurstar and then another train, when I go somewhere

That's a good idea. I don't fly often at all but each time I do, I feel worse. I need to get up at 4 but I really can't sleep.

DH and I are off to an all-inclusive in Turkey next week. We've never done AI before but I've had a really difficult year so I need a break and I'm looking forward to a fly and flop holiday. It's not my usual style of holiday at all, but I can't wait.

TheChippendenSpook · 13/10/2024 02:40

That's the same with me but different destination. I've also never done all inclusive, or had a lounging in the sun type of holiday but I'm so ready for it, also after a tough year. I've had two bereavements and started a new job.

Just wish I was able to sleep for a bit! I've been awake for 22hrs now and I'm so tired! My partner is keeping me up as he snores and my ear plugs and crappy Snoozeband won't drown out the sound.

garlictwist · 13/10/2024 03:30

The week after next. We have booked the annual leave but not anything else. We will have a look at stuff next week and book somewhere. I'm thinking either Ireland or Greece if the weather is shit.

Nugg · 13/10/2024 03:46

Literally just this minute got back from turkey. A week of lazy blissful sunshine! Enjoy yours everyone!

LoudSnoringDog · 13/10/2024 06:41

Thailand for new year!

CeeJay81 · 13/10/2024 06:53

Also going to Tenerife but in 2 months time. Something to look forward too😁 don't trash the place before I get there🤣

PicnicPie · 13/10/2024 07:31

Turkey for half term. Cant wait.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 13/10/2024 07:35

6 days time I’m going on a week long cruise to Spain, Portugal and France😎

Timing is perfect, we booked not knowing I was going to hand in my notice at work and this is the last week of my notice period so I’m hoping it will be a real celebration.

Diving holiday in Indonesia on the 24th of this month! 🦀🐠🪸

Ooh, where in Indonesia, @Jewelanemone? I’m not a diver, but have been on a few Indonesian holidays with my diving DH. We live in Australia so it’s not far.

Lottemarine · 13/10/2024 07:43

Vietnam for NYE

Monkeybutt1 · 13/10/2024 07:47

Amsterdam in half term, then Scotland between Christmas and New year, staying in a cottage in the middle of nowhere away from all the family, I can't wait 🤣 we try to get away a few times a year with a combination of 2 week beach holiday and city breaks.
