Algarve - good town for teens?

Planning a rare trip abroad next summer with 17yo and 14yo DC and have never been to the Algarve.

We want beaches, pool, nice town/village to stroll round and eat out in, not nightlife as such but not deathly dull.

Will probably rent a car and do a water park trip.

Where would you recommend?

Does Carvoeira fit the bill?

Carvoeiro is fine - there is plenty of nightlife there during the summer, but more family than groups of young men and women on stag and hen parties. The beaches are small but there always seems to be room for everyone, and families come back year after year as it is a good base for exploring other areas being pretty much central in the Algarve. It is a safe environment to allow teenagers to go and do their own thing in the evening, lots of entertainment on the beach, music in many venues. There are two sports clubs nearby with tennis, padel and pickleball. Personally, I think it is perfect for what you want. I am an agent here, so know the whole Algarve :)

Alvor.
Fabulous beach, great for body boarding.
Town is small, busy , pretty, lovely restaurants.
Enough going on but not a 18/30 destination.

Thank you! Exactly the kind of info I was looking for @m00rfarm - I have a tennis-mad teen so that's spot on.

@Pirri Alvor was the other place I had seen - I will go and do more research, thank you.

I think I enjoy the research as much as the actual trip Smile

Alvor is OK but there is more choice in Carvoeiro and it is (as I said) more central. If your teen wants to play tennis, then perhaps consider Rocha Brava for your holiday rental - it is a fabulous resort (although a little further out of town) with a beach 15 minutes walk, and a number of restaurants (good ones) and supermarkets within a 2-10 minute stroll. There are three large outdoor pools, plus tennis, pickleball, gym etc. There is also a free minibus you can book to tke you into the main town. I play tennis there 6 days a week and my family live there full time.

They took a video of the resort last year, to give you a taster! (I actually appear on the video in the tennis section although I had no idea at the time!)

Funny you should say that... RB is where my folks go and I've been trying to avoid doing exactly what my Mum tells me to Grin but it looks like I'll have to suck it up!

It does look gorgeous - thanks for all the details Flowers

We stayed in Alvor with our DS and his GF when they were both 18. We all had a good time .

100% Lagos.

Pretty town with a lot going on (rather than a naff resort like some parts of the Algarve). Perfect for the ages you have.

AuntieMarys · 03/10/2024 15:44

RB is lovely...although it's 10 years since I went! We used to stay there every year in a villa with it's own pool. Happy memories

Thank you - I'm going to enjoy doing more research BrewBiscuit

Alvor, or Villamoura are my 2 suggestions.

If you go to Alvor make sure you go to Praia dos Três Irmãos beach which is wonderful!!

Weedkillerworks · 06/10/2024 19:17

Thank you - I will add Villamoura to the list.

Would also suggest Alvor. But also Tavira

Kneeslikethese · 06/10/2024 19:54

We went to Villamoura last year with the teens, they enjoyed it, plenty to do, excellent crazy golf place, close to water park with rides, decent shops, harbour was lively, plenty to see.

Weedkillerworks · 09/10/2024 10:52

Thanks both Flowers
