Vienna

We are off to Vienna for new year - us ( young early 60s) father in law 85 plus son and GF mid 20s - my h and son no doubt will go to 3rd man at the cinema- any general recommendations for museums, galleries, great coffee houses etc!! My H has been before but only briefly on business- looks quite funky these days!!

We were in Vienna in February a few years ago.

There was an ice rink near the Rat Haus if that is your thing. The Schönbrunn Palace is lovely. There are also art galleries at the Belvedere.

Actually when someone says New Year and Vienna in the same sentence I always think of the New Years Day Concert, but you probably need to have great connections or a lot of money to get to that!

Time Travel Vienna was a highlight for us.

Take a free guided walking tour. Schonbrunn Palace and the Cathedral are lovely. A really nice city to wander around.One night we went to The Prater funfair which is the oldest funfair in the world, has a giant Ferris wheel and is where The Third Man was filmed, not our usual thing at all but we enjoyed walking around.
A great city.

@fussychica we are staying close to Prater- one thing that appealed is they keep their Xmas market on post new year
