In Lisbon and it’s … not all that?

Hmm am I missing all the hype about Lisbon? We’re here with a big family thing and whilst I was really looking forward to it I’m surprised how unimpressed we are. It’s dirty, polluted, congestion means it’s hard to walk or cross roads, we keep getting offered drugs and there’s so many identical tacky souvenir shops. Also it’s cloudy which isn’t helping as everything looks a bit grey and dead. Beautiful in the sun no doubt.
It feels like an upcoming city.

feel like I’m in the minority though!

What am I reading? I went to Lisbon about a month ago and LOVED it. Beautiful buildings covered in tiles, friendly people, amazing food, incredible history and churches and castles and culture. Beautiful sea views.

We also went to Sintra and the Pina Palace for the day which was stunning although busy.

I am desperate to go back! Didn't see any dog shit or class A drugs at all.

Yes... I am also confused. We adored Lisbon and didn't have a bad thing to say about it 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also, I can't believe no one has mentioned the tile museum yet!

Just got back, as well. DH and I both Londoners so used to big city life.
we really lived our week stay. Mostly walked everywhere, up and down through all the districts, some quite edgy and came across some interesting unexpected things, but always felt safe. Just below the Castle is a Roman Amphitheater that was covered by the earthquake. It’s been excavated and has glass surrounding it. Free to see. The botanical gardens were lovely on a very hot day, although it is Autumn. Next to it is the Natural History museum, a great place, upstairs is interactive and immersive.
We stayed on the Avenida Da Liberdade, a very nice area with all the Designer shops.
As for dog mess, we remarked how few dogs we saw.
