JET2 Holidays - no seats left to book on flight

We (me, DH, DD (4) & DS (4M) have our first half term holiday booked with Jet2 holidays.

When booking the holiday & it came to pre booking our seats on the plane I was unable too, as the outbound flight has completely sold out of standard seats. Just to say I was completely willing & wanted to book seats together but couldn’t. Not even 1 seat.

The only seats available are the exit row seats which DD & DS can’t go into as they are underage. DS is on my lap as under 2.

I also couldn’t check in online when online check in opened. I called Jet2 who said it’s because we have young children & need to sit together. We are apparently down for airport check in - we can only do that on the day.

Has anyone else had this experience?? Do we actually have seats on the plane, given that it was all sold out when trying to book.

Assuming we will be together & it maybe a case of someone else who has paid is going to be bumped off their pre paid seats to accommodate us (cringing because it’s not like I wasn’t willing to pay!).

Not looking for an argument re why airlines do this etc.. just looking for reassurance that we will be on the plane & at least one of us will be sat next to DD! I am aware this can be across, behind or in front & good luck to whoever has to sit next to her if that is the case 😦

can I have your travel stories please!

sounds like a full flight where they have to reserve seats for your party - they just don’t know which ones yet - I am sure they haven’t oversold and you can’t go.

Hi, this happened to us when DS was smaller. We had to hang around at check in while they juggled seats around and then we were seated all together.

Anaphylaxis · 30/09/2024 17:10

Call Jet2. I had similar experience, though I spotted this while booking, and called Jet2 first. The person was able to release some sort of reserved seats for crew members to us and then I paid for the booking.

BeerForMyHorses · 30/09/2024 17:12

They don't have to put you together if you haven't booked. They will keep your Dc who has his own seat with on parent. Although this could be across the aisle.

mitogoshigg · 30/09/2024 17:12

They will shift people around if needed, sounds like they have your needs listed and they will check you in at the airport. Arrive with a bit of extra time

MrsCarson · 30/09/2024 17:29

They may well put you both in different isles with a child each.
Although we were late with a connecting flight one time, Not jet2 and Ds who was 2 was in the isle behind me with a older teen boy who catered to him with opening his food and saw to his entertainment for the flight, Dh was miles away other Ds (he was 8) was nearer to him but different isle. It worked out fine.

Just because you can't book seats, it's not necessarily that all the seats have been reserved.

I think they deliberately keep some slack in the system so they can shift people around.

They'll find you seats together on the day and it's likely they'll upgrade someone else to the exit row but they'll need to get their agreement and make sure they're capable of opening the door in an emergency.

Happened with us on Ryanair - as we missed our flight and they rebooked us on next available and all that was available was exit rows - our 3 year old was on an exit row alone - and I was in a different row and husband a different row

we just got on and the cabin crew just asked if some people would swap so that one of us could sit with 3year old somewhere else !

as it was exit row more leg room someone was happy to swap !

Invisimamma · 30/09/2024 17:52

I've never been separated as a family with Jet2 and I've never paid for seats. I always check in the second it opens which is 28 days in advance.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 30/09/2024 18:42

We flew with jet2 once and we had been allocated the tow adults seats at the back of the plane and the two kids seats at the front.

We weren't bothered as would just have put one adult and one child together when we got to the desk though they had already reallocated our seats. I think you'll be fine.

SabrinaSpellwoman · 30/09/2024 19:11

Yes this happened to us last year with Jet2, exact same issue, only emergency exit seats left and not allowed kids on those.
I rang them and they said not to worry they would sort it at the airport. And they did.
As a PP suggests, I think they bump other people up to the emergency exit rows. We ended up with 2 seats together on a row and DH sat on the row in front.
Don't panic, have a lovely holiday!

FlutteryButterfly · 30/09/2024 19:45

Don't worry, you'll most likely be sat together or close. We were on a jet 2 flight three weeks ago (me, DH and DS19) and had booked 2 aisle seats and 1 middle seat in the same row. On bag drop we were told our seats had changed middle and window seat and then 1 aisle 3 rows back. When I asked why it was to accommodate a young family. Slightly annoying and Would have preferred to have sat in the seats we reserved but obviously had to accept it- guess we were the unlucky ones to be bumped.

CuttySarcasm · 30/09/2024 19:47

My DH works for Jet2, and this happened to us. He said they’ll always put kids together with parents, so don’t worry and turn up on the day. Turns out that did happen! They put us all together despite not being to pre book that online before hand.

zebrapig · 30/09/2024 22:51

As others have said, they'll sort it on check in. We booked last minute in May and when I checked in online we got allocated random seats eg one behind each other in window seats. When we checked un we'd been moved to 2 and 2 across the aisle from each other. On the way back we were given 3 in a row and 1 about 15 rows in front. I had a very peaceful flight home! Grin
