Favorite sunnier/slightly warmer winter destinations

Feeling like we need to escape the gloom for a few days between Christmas and new years. Not looking to go to Thailand or anything (although that would be lovely!), probably southern Europe where it’s a bit sunnier/less gloomy and warm enough to not need a winter parka. Two primary age DCs so to be sure there’s enough kid-friendly activities to keep them entertained. What’s worked well for others at that time of year? Portugal? Southern Spain? Southern Italy? We could fly direct to Barcelona, Granada, Lisbon, Rome, Athens, Catania, Naples. We’d consider a connection if needed, just nice to fly direct when we can.

Could probably finagle nonstop to Seville or Malaga too, especially if it was in of one and out of the other

Any of the Canary Islands will give you warm sunshine and a 4 hour flight. Lots of family hotels depending what you want to pay and what sort of resort suits

I've been several times to southern Spain over the years between November and February. Alicante, Valencia, Malaga, Seville and various resorts from Malaga airport between Nerja (east) and Estepona (west). Have been very unlucky with rain on one occasion and a pretty cold trip on another but mostly we get to sit in tee shirts in the day time - although you definitely need a sweater and/or jacket and heating in the evening .

I think quite a few of the family attractions on the Costa del Sol are open year round, although they may have shorter hours (and sometimes despite what the opening hours say, if the weather is bad then they don't open).
