Term time school holidays

I needed abit of help as am really stressed out.

I have booked a family holiday in October for 4 weeks. 2 weeks will be when it is school holidays and 2 weeks out of school holidays.

I see the rules have changed and getting a 3rd fine in 3 years will take you to court.

Now the part where i am stressed out is we have had 2 fines in the last 2 years. Will the fines from the previous years count to this year and ultimately this holiday will land me in court?

TIA

Well it could well do. Why have you booked such a long holiday? You are lucky to get 2 weeks in October, most people only get one so why not just do a two week holiday? How old are the kids?

CarmelaBrunella · 29/09/2024 20:36

Where are you going for 4 weeks?

Tiredmummyof3 · 29/09/2024 20:37

The new rules start from this August so the previous two won't count this time.

Calliopespa · 29/09/2024 20:38

And why have you already done this twice before?

CarmelaBrunella · 29/09/2024 20:38

How old are your children?

UpTheMagicFarawayTree · 29/09/2024 20:39

Aren't you concerned about the amount your children will miss out on?

wafflesmgee · 29/09/2024 20:40

That's not OK at all. School matters. Every day in school matters. Why would you intentionally derail your children's education like this?!
It speaks volumes that your main concern is the fine and court, not the impact this has on your children's education and futures.
Ffs just book holidays IN. THE.HOLIDAYS...because they're, you know, HOLIDAYS!

pinkroses79 · 29/09/2024 20:41

That's a long time to be out of school for a holiday unless the circumstances are exceptional. Surely August is the time for such a long break?

pinkfleece · 29/09/2024 20:41

Hopefully yes. Education is actually important.

AgainandagainandagainSS · 29/09/2024 20:42

Fines clearly have no effect on you as you keep doing it so hopefully you will end up in court.
What will it take to stop you flouting the rules?

We are going to Pakistan to visit family and my childrens grandparents, uncles and aunts etc. We dont go Pakistan every year. We could have gone during summer holidays but it is way too hot which could be dangerous for our children and would mean we are putting our childrens health at risk.

I hope so. How irresponsible.

MammaGisAF · 29/09/2024 20:45

For 4 weeks of absence do they look to off role your children?

Wow that's a long time for the Children to be out of school. I get the school holidays are expensive, but I don't agree with taking kids out of school. Not only is it an interruption on their education, but the staff have to try and get them caught up as well, which just puts unnecessary pressure on them as well. Really don't get it

MagentaRavioli · 29/09/2024 20:47

I don’t think the fine is the thing to worry about, it’s the gaps in your dc’s education which will have a lasting effect.

You could just not go.

All kids deserve to see loving family if they are fortunate enough to have them.

I think its 15 school days straight to court. Our holiday is 13 days of school days.

Well don’t. Re-book the flights so that you’re only going for less than 5 days outside the 2 weeks of October half term. (And stop going on holiday in term time).
the law has changed to stop people like you taking the piss.

Pakistani children seem to manage it in the heat.

What bollocks.

Be honest - you want cheaper flights.

greenrollneck · 29/09/2024 20:51

I thought visiting family overseas was considered to be different to an all inclusive in Dubai for 4 weeks.

Not sure why it's anyone's business why you are taking 4 weeks or where you are going, your question is about the fines.

Enjoy, they will potentially benefit and learn more in those 2 weeks out of school, depending on ages I'm not sure it's the big issue others seem to think.

Have a fab time.

For four weeks when it interferes with their education?
I think not.

Very risky if there is a problem with the flights or your kids get ill and are unable to go in.
