A couple of days in Brussels alone.

My DH has a business trip to Brussels in a couple of weeks. Since our youngest has just started University I'd be home alone so he's suggested I go with him. He's got a double room in the hotel anyway so I'd just have my travel to pay for and whatever I do whilst I'm there. Sounds like quite a good idea, but of course DH is going to be working most of the time and I'm not really sure how appealing Brussels will be in October. In Summer I'd probably be fairly happy to mooch around the city on my own but if it's cold and wet that's not such an attractive idea. We have been before when the kids were younger but we spent most of the time at things like the Atomium and Mini Europe so I'm not sure what there is to do for grown ups! (Besides eating waffles and chocolate of course... ) Any suggestions?

I follow my DH sometimes to make use of the hotel room. My favourite trips have been the " fuck it" trips. Just the pool or beach or wine and a good book.
Whenever I do planned activities they end up being disappointing because I wish DH was there or it's feels a bit forced.
On the other hand I bloody love using all the hotel facilities after a long lie in, followed by a decadent lunch with wine and an afternoon nap.

There is loads to do. Visit all the Manneken Pis statues and the museum dedicated to the subject, follow the graffiti trail through the city centre. go to the palace, try all the fruit flavoured beers on the square outside.
I only had 48 hours and it wasn't long enough

If you can't find anything to do in Brussels (which I've always found a bit hit-and-miss), Gent is lovely and only half an hour by train.
