Childminder holidays cancellation

Good day,
My childminder told that she will take holidays during few days from Friday to Monday. We organized our holidays with my parents who will have there 50 years wedding anniversary, then with all family. The date was defined in function of childminder holidays, because it will be in France and as we will come from UK, it is more difficult to organize everything.
The childminder decided to cancelled her holidays, then now as it is write in the contract, when our daughter does not come, we need to pay half day.
As she cancelled the holidays, is it legal to ask 1/2 day compensation because our child will not come to the childminder? We cannot cancelled our holidays, because plane tickets and family organization were already done.

Thank you so much for your help

Have you got the childminder's original holidays in writing? If so, I would be telling the childminder that she will not get paid as you deliberately organised your holidays to fit with hers. I don't know on the legal side mind, but your childminder sounds like she's taking the piss.
