Canada?

We have a couple of events in Montreal and Quebec City next Spring. We've been to both before so would like to combine the trip with somewhere else. But where?
More Canada? NYC? Another part of the US? Does anyone have any recommendations?

Maine or Boston. NYC - meh, but I've been there a lot (as well as spent one year of uni there). Depends how far you are willing to travel - all those are a plane ride. Maine you could possibly drive.

The area around Montreal and Quebec is amazing for a holiday. Both a great cities, worthy of a few days for exploration. We visited a range of other places in the area, all of which I'd recommend...

Mont Tremblant area - a really beautiful area, lots of lakes and mountains, and small towns/villages.
Lac Saint Jean - huge lake with lovely places all around it
The fjord off the Saguenay river - loads of great walking and wildlife watching (whales etc) - incredible scenery

There's also the Algonquin national park (haven't been, but apparently very nice), and Ottowa (also heard good things).

We went to Toronto on another trip. I know people rave about it, and I do remember having a nice time, but I don't remember anything specific enough to recommend about it, and I didn't come away thinking 'I must go back' or 'I must tell other people about it'.

There is so much to see and do in Canada (and N America more widely), but if you're already tied to Montreal/Quebec, I would most definitely stay in that area rather than going further afield. It was one of my favourite holidays.

Whoops - just seen you've been to both cities before! So you probably don't want a few days in each. But I'd still stick the the area between/around them rather than going further away.

I enjoyed the time I spent in Ottawa. What about Toronto & Niagara Falls area too?

We've done Toronto and Niagara. I quite like the idea of hiring a car and doing Maine or Vermont.

Nova Scotia and PEI?

I'd look into a few days in Washington, DC. Short flight from Montreal and a very easy city to get around. I loved DC - so much history, incredible museums and a pleasure to walk around. Chicago is another option. The city gets such a bad reputation (just avoid the dodgy parts) but it is wonderful to visit and has such a unique character. So many happy memories from my visits to both cities and I find they are places most people wouldn't centre an entire holiday around. Take advantage of the proximity to Montreal!

Recently had a holiday in Vancouver and Vancouver Island…absolutely stunning.

Algonquin is excellent but the black flies and mosquitoes are horrendous in June.
