Grrrrrrr... LOVE italy, LOVE italians, HATE how slack the customer service is. Can anyone help Aitch find an apartment to stay in for a week in Rome at the end of May?

sorry about that, it's naff when you put your own name in a title but i'm a bit desperate.

anyhoo, i know, i know, i'm rubbish, i always go to Rome but you know a holiday is about me having a nice time and i know the city so well.

so i'm looking for CHEAP accommodation (under 100 euro per night) in Rome for between the 27th May and 4th June.

i've found some great places on a website but when you email they just try to upsell you to more expensive accommodation and so far have taken 72 hours to get back to me anyway so it's most frustrating. i've phoned and emailed etc but they couldn't care less really...

does anyone have any recommendations? (at this rate i'll be forced to ask my Italian mates which would be fine were it not for the fact that they would instantly invite us to stay with them, the generous bastards, and it would be awkward refusing but all i want to do is potter around just the three of us).

really it needn't be nice, just fairly central. dd can sleep in our bed if necessary so we don't need a lot of space, i'd rather spend money in restaurants than on accommodation that we'll just be flopping into anyway.

areas? navona, colosseo, spanish steps, trastevere, campo di fiori, anywhere really. preferably not st p's as it's a bit antiseptic round there.

if anyone can help me that would be FABULOUS. i've looked here www.rentalinrome.com and here www.homelidays.com mostly so far, so any good websites (with some actual fookin customer service) would be really helpful.

Lol at crap customer service, tis so true alas.

Do you read Italian? There's this site , just click on one of the photos. Failing that, come on the Little Italy thread, there's one of us in Roma who might be able to help.

marina · 21/04/2008 13:16

There is a lovely sounding RC-run B & B hotel in Trastevere Aitch
Would this be even remotely suitable

As recommended in the Sat Telegraph "Rome on a Budget"

AitchTwoOhelicopterfraek · 21/04/2008 13:50

blimey that does look lovely marina but i do think that we'd be better off with 2 spaces iyswim so that me and dh can watch dvds and arse about together while dd sleeps. plus having lived in italy before there is something very appealing about the idea of having some fresh suppli/olives/bread/ham to snack on in the apartment fridge.
thanks for the tip brange, i'm off to look at that now. maybe i'll see you on the little italy thread?

weirdly, brange, there aren't that many properties on there that are available... have we really left it too late?

How weird. I just tried inputting your dates into this and it keeps coming up that it is occupied today. On the last minute page it gives dates in June only....

Let me try something else.

crumpet · 21/04/2008 14:04

This site any good? www.ownersdirect.co.uk/rome.htm

Tutter · 21/04/2008 14:08

Brangelina · 21/04/2008 14:11

Tutter · 21/04/2008 14:17

Tutter · 21/04/2008 14:18

oopstry again

AitchTwoOhelicopterfraek · 21/04/2008 14:54

thanks everyone, am looking at them now. it's weird, that rome apartments one had loads of places advertised at under 100 euros (but then of course they're the ones now trying to upsell me and not answering emails). whereas everyone else seems to be well over 100... do you think the first lot are just at it?

oh i HATE organising this stuff and dh is huffing about having to look after dd while i'm doing it, as if it's a fooking leisure activity for me, the idiot.

This is great - I was thinking about a week away somewhere at half term before it gets too hot. I'll take a look at some of these.

orangina · 21/04/2008 14:57

Is this any good?

AitchTwoOhelicopterfraek · 21/04/2008 14:57

it is HALF-TERM then?

god, i loathe my dh and his STUPID football.

orangina · 21/04/2008 14:57

The company is run by a sort of friend of a friend.....

foxinsocks · 21/04/2008 14:57

I'm pretty sure that week is our half term (here in London) so maybe that's why you are finding it so hard to find somewhere?

(if your dd is school age and you know this already and are now throwing things at the screen screaming YOU THINK I DON'T F'ING KNOW THAT then I apologise in advance)

Ah, it's for a footie match. Book your DH in the local city centre hostel/seminary and you and DD book yourselves somewhere more relaxing near the sea/lakes/mountains.

Aitch - we got a good apt in Bologna (which is not touristy, so quite hard!) from homelidays.com - just did a quick search and found this amongst others. Testimonials thing is handy... My mum and dad are going to Rome (40th wedding anniv trip) on Weds - any top tips?

AitchTwoOhelicopterfraek · 21/04/2008 15:14

no, he has to be home for the european cup, he's a pain in the arse tbh.

AND he can't drive.

so the reason i'd gipped on the eurocamp thing is cos a. dh isn't a camping kinda guy and i will not be in the mood to be in charge of everything. lovely guy, just a bloody dither and i do want a holiday for myself.

and b. i thought i'd have to drive and i just don't want to. too much responsibility for knowing where we're going etc. dh, lovely guy etc but not a map-reader.

where's the camp near rome, though, i couldn't see it. i do want to go there, tbh, i haven't seen my mates since we got married there, it'd be nice to catch up now that we have children. so rome it is. and fookin half-term it is.
