Where to stay in Yorkshire?

I'm looking for recommendations on where to holiday in Yorkshire. I'm looking at self catering cottages for 2 adults and 2 DC (5 & 3) next summer. Possibly near Harrogate, but open to other locations. Looking for plenty of things to do with the kids within a 45 min drive and ideally within walking distance or a short drive of family friendly restaurants/pubs. There seems to be lots of choice, but would be greatful for recommendations. Thank you.

Pickering- could go into York, the coast (Scarborough/whitby), north Yorkshire moors (on the steam train), Harrogate, kikbymoorside, malton to name a few. Stayed in lots of holiday cottages over the years in the area (but none recently).

We loved Beech Farm. The children were encouraged to join in with feeding the animals and collecting the eggs, plus there was an indoor pool and lots of play equipment for the dc. We tried to book it again another year but they were fully booked so we stayed at Low Costa Mill instead, which we were really pleased with and it had all the facilities of Beech Farm.

Look at this company Holiday at Home. They have self catering accom in the Dales, around Richmond and North Yorkshire
We've used them a lot all around Yorkshire. Brompton Lakes is a favourite, also Sun Hill Farm.
Or coastal I like Filey and we've stayed at a few with this company 5Leys

Holiday Cottages in Richmond

Holiday at Home have plenty of luxury holiday cottages, homes and lodges located in Richmond, North Yorkshire. Perfect for your next getaway

I’d chose one of the proper dales or NYM market towns like Richmond, Skipton, Pickering or even Masham or Pateley Bridge. If you’re from the south Harrogate is just like any other affluent place in the Home Counties.

Thanks, I'll look into these. We are from the Midlands, and I do agree that a market town or village with a good pub (or 2!) would suit us better a big town/city.

I would look at Helmsley, Malton, Pickering, kirbymoorside. You can do a bit if the coast but also moors and loads of nice places. Castle Howard and sledmere are good for kids and adults.

Agree with Pickering. We've stayed with Eastgate Cottages before. They're right in town, so you can walk to the pub, castle, steam train etc. One wet day we went for a swim in the leisure centre before a café brunch. Quick drive to Whitby, and not far from York for lots more wet weather options.

Scarborough would be my recommendation, it has the waterpark, there are great parks for children ,plenty of places to eat.
