So, DP and I have 7-10 days child free for my 30th next April. DD is going on holiday with grandparents so we are going to make the most of it and celebrate my birthday.

It'll be during Easter school holidays which for us is 14-17 April however we do have the weekends too, and will ideally leave on the 12th April as my birthday is 13th.

Budget is flexible to some degree.

Please hit me with ideas! Open to cruises, sun holidays, spa breaks, scenery holidays. Anything really - but flight time ideally under 6 hours.

Snorkelling in the Red Sea in Egypt

Barbados. It’s amazing

April short haul is tricky.
perhaps Morocco

Crikeyalmighty · 23/09/2024 14:43

I would go somewhere like chania in Crete or paphos in Cyprus - Greece has been pretty warm from end of March consistently in recent years

Barbados is 8 hours from memory. Do you mind flying a bit further overnight? I’d pick South Africa. You could fly to Cape Town and then go along the Garden Route. Get a connection from Port Elizabeth to fly home. Most flights are overnight.

We also did a tour of Sicily in April. Not sunbathing weather but great for sightseeing without extreme heat and lots of tourists. I loved it. I would see this as a great time to travel without extreme heat so Cordoba/Seville/Granada might appeal or the south of France. We based ourselves in Nice and hired a car and used the train. Plenty to see and do.

You could do a Nile cruise or look at Morocco. We tend to be keen on culture and food but not spas so much but many hotels have them. I’d try and stay somewhere lovely and enjoy the hotel experiences too. Have fun planning.

Thanks all! Some really interesting suggestions here that I'd not considered!

@TizerorFizz yes it’s slightly over 8 bum-numbing hours but so worth it x

TizerorFizz · 24/09/2024 10:24

Personally I think Cape Town overnight with only 2 hours time difference and not expensive when you get there is better! South Africa is a lot more varied.

Crikeyalmighty · 24/09/2024 10:34

Another suggestion would be an Andalusian city hopping- Seville, ronda, cordoba and Malaga - with maybe a few days in old Marbella- we did this in April and it was gorgeous. Easy with a car but train network in that area very good too

jeaux90 · 24/09/2024 11:22

Caribbean definitely.

TizerorFizz · 24/09/2024 13:04

The problem with the Caribbean is time difference. It’s 5 hours right now for Barbados - British summer time. There is some merit in going for 10 days and being ok when you get back so closer to home or little time difference is way more manageable to get back into your routine.

Croatia. Beautiful country. Xx

jeaux90 · 24/09/2024 18:36

@TizerorFizz seriously Grin
I travel to the west coast of the US for work, sometimes for 2 days and back, jet lag is fine. A week in the Caribbean is perfect...and honestly it feels like two weeks it's so laid back.

Crikeyalmighty · 24/09/2024 20:32

@jeaux90 we once did 5 nights in LA for work! And yep I was fine.
