Booked a weekend in Paris and booked the stay city hotel in Gare De L'est. now seen some recent reviews of the area not being safe so have been googling and now worrying! Have 3DDs with us, 11-15. Thank you!!

We stayed there. It was fine. Enjoy!

Thanks @CharlotteStreetW1. So you didn't see any trouble in the evenings in the area? Just a bit worried walking around with 3 DDs!

Thank you!

It's not the prettiest (or safest) part of Paris by any stretch but you should be ok if you're just using the hotel as a base.

I've stayed in that area and metro is amazing into the centre where I spent pretty much all the time.

Just be sensible, as you would in any major city.

I think the equivalent is staying in a hotel by Euston or Kings Cross; not the nicest, but nothing major to worry about. Plenty of people around etc. And presumably you’re using the hotel as a base to explore the city, so you won’t be stuck there. In a nutshell, if your budget is not an issue, then there are nicer areas. If it works for your budget, then it’s fine and I’m sure you’ll have a great time.

It’s fine. We stayed there earlier this year. You are close to the Canal Saint-Martin too which is pretty and is lined with cafe’s and restaurants. Think it was about 40 mins to the Eiffel Tower on the metro.

We stayed near there (In the Happy Magenta 38 hotel) last year and it was fine. I stayed in the same hotel on my own for a work trip last month and felt perfectly safe. The taxi driver wasn't amused at taking me there from Gare du Nord as it is pretty close and a short fare for him, but I didn't fancy a walk in the dark on my own (when I'd have needed my phone out to navigate).

We walked from there a lot- down to the river, and all the way back from the Eiffel Tower. We barely used the Metro. The canal was great - lots of good bars and restaurants round there. I'd stay there again quite happily.

Looking at this myself for a Paris trip in a couple of months as I wanted a kitchenette. Did you find the StayCity OK? Reviews are mixed. I'm bothered about cleanliness, noise and safety.
