Cancelling cruise with less than 90 days notice

Hello
can anyone please help?
i have bought ones a cruise on line a company we have used many times before.
The cruise company has links with a bus company which provides transfers from our home town to port which we pay for. The cruise company does not own the bus company
just found out as cruise only for 4 nights the bus transfer is not running. Due to distance of our home city to port we will not be able to go on the cruise.
if we cancel we loose 65% of the cost of the cruise.
we paid on credit card.
is there anyway we can reclaim the full cost of the cruise as there was nothing online to say there was no transfer as the cruise was less than 7 nights? Thank you

Do you anything in the confirmation to say that there will be a transfer?

Can you arrange a private transfer, surely cheaper than 65% of the cost of a cruise. Or take a train?

tribpot · 13/09/2024 15:47

Did you pay for the transfer as part of the cruise fare?

FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant · 13/09/2024 15:54

When purchasing the cruise tickets all they need to do is say what is included, not that a transfer isn't unless it's been advertised as having transfers?

No point doing a chargeback on your credit card, the cruise company will submit their evidence in line with their T&C's and the credit card company will side with them.

It seems like the obvious solution is to find another transfer? Train, private taxi, short flight, hire a car? All will be cheaper than losing 65%.

Can't you get there any other way? Seems crazy to lose all that money. Surely you could pay someone petrol to give you a lift.

arethereanyleftatall · 13/09/2024 16:10

Unless it was advertised as pick up from your home town, I can't see how they would be liable for you not being able to get to the departure point.

myflightiscancelled · 13/09/2024 16:12

Is there no other way out of your town? This seems like such a non issue to cancel a holiday over. How do you get other places?

Chewbecca · 13/09/2024 16:16

As PP said, if it isn't explicitly stated as included, it is unlikely you have any hope of a refund.

Have you explored other ways to get to the port? Can we help? Where are you travelling to and from?

Alternatively if you plead with them nicely, they might let you transfer your credit to another cruise. Much more likely to be successful if your current one is sold out and therefore your room can be re-sold.

NerrSnerr · 13/09/2024 16:24

Where are you trying to get from/ to. There must be some way of getting there?

Orangeyblanket · 13/09/2024 16:39

Can you get a National Express coach?

Doyouthinktheyknow · 13/09/2024 16:41

Train, bus, taxi?

There are reselling sites for various cruise companies on Facebook too.

Hello everyone- thank you so much for your advice. After I read your comments I gave my head a wobble. I accept paying transfer is cheaper than loosing 65% of cost of cruise, but the cost of the transfer was adding to the culmination total. I was considering flights but would not get disembarkation time until 21 days before and there was only one return flight scheduled.
so, in the end phoned the cruise company and explained my mistake and asked if I could cancel without penalty.
They were very helpful and actually said themselves they could not understand why the usual bus option was not available, then they refunded the full amount 😀. I am so pleased and grateful and have learned a valuable lesson not just to assume that because something is usually the case it will always be the case(and not to book cruises in the middle of the night in future 😂).
Thank you all again, I really appreciate you all taking the time and effort to get back to me and also for not pointing out to me how idiotic I was xx
