Passport criteria holiday to USA

Just would like some peace of mind really . On the government website it says your passport just needs to be valid for the period of travel when going to USA and travelling on a British passport. We are travelling to new York in November and at that time I will only have 5 and a half months left on my passport . Am I assuming that the 6 month rule doesn’t apply for USA . Anyone been recently that can advise ? Really don’t want to get caught out !

Different countries have different rules. If USA says length of stay, that's whats important.

I know that you can stay in the US for up to six months as a tourist. Since that time is approaching, why not renew your passport now?

Correct, the UK is exempt from the six-month requirement.

Have you already applied for your Esta? If you have and then apply for a new passport you will need a new esta.

As long as you can prove you intend to return before it expires (return flight booked is the best way to do this) fhen you’re fine
not sure why you’d go to the renewal and expense of replacing when you don’t need to

What is the '6 month rule'?

All countries have different rules, there are no blanket rules that apply or otherwise.

If you're travelling direct to the US from UK then all you need to consider is the entry requirements for that country, ie 'to enter the US, your passport must be valid for the length of your planned stay'.

For the USA the passport just needs to be valid for the duration of your stay there.

Some countries insist on the passport being valid for 6 months post your visit but many countries do not insist on this (the USA being one).
