Looking for recommendations please for myself and DD 12 for holiday next summer in Greece. Not sure whether to go for Rhodes or Corfu or one of the smaller islands.

We want to be located somewhere where we have a beach close by and plenty to do in the vicinity. Nice pool, in-house entertainment or things to do within walking distance.

We love to experience the local culture when we go away, old towns, markets, spend some time relaxing but all go on arranged trips to explore. We are not lovers of very over-populated tacky destinations but do like our comforts.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Hotel platanista is just outside kos town. Plenty to do in hotel and very comfortable. You can cycle in to the town along a bike path. Only downside is the hotel beach is stone not sand.

Crete is much nicer than Corfu imo. Never been to Rhodes. Love Halkidiki and Sani beach, lots of lovely places to stay.

I prefer Corfu over Rhodes though Rhodes town does have a stunning old town and beaches . But Corfu is so much more green! Rhodes was quite arid.

Corfu is just easier to get around for day trips and things.
The old town is breathtaking, because of its long history of Venetian occupation, part of it look more like Italy than Greece!

Favourite place in Corfu is Paleokastritsa(40 mins form town). More spread out and no real town centre to speak of but absolutely stunning even just for a day trip.

If you aren't renting a car the buses are good and you can get almost anywhere within an hour or so.

Kassiopi is a gorgeous village too.

You can do day trips to Albania, 40 minutes away by ferry.

Lots of interesting islands around to visit or you can go to Igoumenitsa on mainland Greece.

We went on a day trip to Paxos and Antipaxos islands.. the clearest and most amazing sea I have ever seen! Many people said it reminded them of Thailand and the likes.

And if you're a plane nerd, Pontikinisi bridge, the airport runway is one of the most interesting in the world, planes almost land on your head! 🤣

Look along the east coast and closer to Corfu town unless driving/dont mind a transfer over 30mins.

. If you can give an approx budget for accommodation, better recommendations can be made.

I'm looking at Crete for next year as I've heard quite a few people say this now!!

Just back from Rhodes and loved it, we stayed on the edge of Kiotari which is a small fishing village. Hired a car for 3 days and did Rhodes Old Town which was beautiful, an hours drive from our hotel, Lindos acropolis which you have to walk up to, no cars in the village, lovely small winding streets, very quaint, 25 minutes from from our hotel and lastly we did Monolithos castle (ruin) and the ruins of Kamiros, that was about an hours drive but we drove through the hills to explore more.
The weather was beautiful the entire time, sea a lovely temperature though our beach was a bit stoney which i think is common on Rhodes.
Public buses seemed very good and plenty of bus stops.
