Istanbul airport (IST)

Anyone had a connection in IST recently? How long would you allow for a connection? It's from the UK to a non-Schengen non-EU country connecting at Istanbul.

Edit: both flights with same airline so no need to collect luggage and check in again.

We did in April, we had 3 hours to connect to a flight to Cape Town. The airport is enormous but that was still more than enough time to explore shops, get a drink etc

There was two more security checks before boarding the connection. I'd say 2 hours is fine without needed to worry if the inbound is late

As maketea says the airport is huge.

The only issue with this is we had a connecting flight from Istanbul, same airline also. There was enough time between the two flights to comfortably contract. However our first flight was delayed and when we did land, the gate for the next flight was a good 20 minutes walk away. The airport was huge and as such we missed the second flight.

These things happen but just make sure there's a good gap between the connecting flights.

Eek so 1hr 30min and 1hr 45min would be cutting it too close? I suspected as much but they are the options that keep coming up. It's not a popular route so flights are proving a pain in the neck

Should be ok if you're first off and just march straight to your gate.
