Hi, after looking online for what seems like ages I'm still none the wiser on the rules regarding holidays.
My daughter starts nursery 9th September 2024, and we've had a holiday booked for well over a year and half. The holiday is from the 7th October until the 11th October..
My question is will I get fined for her not being at nursery?
I have yet to speak to the school office. But my understanding is that because she's under 5 years old I won't get fined? Is this correct.

She's not statutory school age, so there would be no fine.

Nursery isn't compulsory so you can take them out any time you like for any reason. You will still have to pay the usual fees though obviously.

DappledThings · 07/09/2024 09:31

Nursery is entirely optional at any point in the year so no, no fine.

You can take her out of school for 10 sessions now ( a week) and not get fined

It's only once they're in reception and over 5 they can fine you

You get fined for ten sessions or more so you do get fined if you take a full week

Government guidance and it's not up to the head it's up to the LEA

The fine is to be considered for 10 sessions or more. 10 sessions is a week. A week off can therefore lead to a fine.

Well that might be what your head has decided but there will be plenty who decide otherwise! The wording is very clear that you can be fined for a week’s absence!!
