I'm thinking of going to Luxor, Egypt, at the beginning of March for some sun and culture. I usually go through travel companies, but this time I'm thinking of booking flights, hotel and visits myself. Has anyone done this and have any tips?

We've been twice, both times as part of a larger tailor-made package.
The second visit in 2022, I costed the individual elements out of idle curiousity.
7 flights, 2 cruises, mutiple transfers, hotels, private tours etc.

No contest, the organised holiday was c.66% of my estimate.

I have. Solo trip. Flights to Hurghada, hotel for 5 days, dolphin snorkelling trip, bus to Luxor, hotel there, hired bike and cycled round valley of kings. I like doing my own thing so never use travel companies. Usually it’s cheaper but not always. I’m paying to do exactly what I want to do. More hassle and nobody to fall back on if things go wrong but for me part of the experience.
