First year with school age DC, so just curious.

How many weeks of the school holidays are you actually away on holiday for (ie not based at home, any kind of camping/self catering/hotel etc time away whether in UK or abroad)?

I'd count Mon-Fri as being away for the week, but not if it's just one night away.

1 week

Cheeesus · 05/09/2024 11:07

Usually a week to a week and a half over summer. Plus a week at either Oct or Easter. I think we’re lucky to do that though.

mrsed1987 · 05/09/2024 11:07

This year was 1 week in Dorset.

Next year we are away for 10 days in Egypt.

Scottishgirl85 · 05/09/2024 11:07

3 weeks. We always do 2 weeks at start and then the last 1 week. Breaks it up nicely.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 05/09/2024 11:10

At least 2 weeks in summer hols.
Ideally 2 weeks at Easter depending when Easter is, if it's too early then a week in May and maybe a week in October

Kitkat1523 · 05/09/2024 11:11

My DD was away 3.5 weeks with her DC

Putmeinsummer · 05/09/2024 11:12

This year we did 3 weeks but most years it will be none and the DC go into summer camps.

longdistanceclaraclara · 05/09/2024 11:14

Do you mean just summer? If so four this year.

We have a week at Easter and October too.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 05/09/2024 11:30

As a family (two kids plus me! we were away for ten days.

But when you factor in their time spend with their dad, then one spent a week with grandparents (at their request!) and the other did a language exchange (just starting yr 11 now), they barely saw this house!

So that’s not ideal but at least they were at home for their time with their dad, and he’s only two streets away so could see friends, keep up with local commitments etc

DC have 13 weeks holiday. We are away between 7 and 9 weeks per year. Both DH and I are foreigners and don’t have family in the UK, plus I can’t wait to escape the British weather.

StarGirrrl77 · 05/09/2024 12:04

Three night trip to Yorkshire and another three nights on a European city break. That's a lot more than we normally do.

minipie · 05/09/2024 12:06

A lot tbh. We are in the sweet spot age wise for going away with them, it’s not hard work like younger ages and they aren’t teens yet so not missing hanging out with mates. So getting trips in while we can.

Positivenancy · 05/09/2024 12:27

For me 1 week.

for the kids
10 days in uk with their dad
1 week holiday with me
1 week holiday with their dad

scrivette · 05/09/2024 12:32

4 nights at the beginning of the holiday and 8 nights at the end, all in the U.K.

We usually go for 4 nights at the beginning and and 4 nights at the end so it was more than usual for us.

Custardandrhubarbcrumble · 05/09/2024 13:16

Usually a week's foreign holiday plus several short camping or 'stay with friends in the UK' trips. This year, two separate weeks abroad, two short camping trips.

WheresMySupportCat · 05/09/2024 13:19

We were very lucky this year. 1 week in Germany over easter. 1 week Greece in summer. 3 days Butlins end of summer.

Next year we will be away 3 consecutive weeks as travelling long haul to visit family.

fadedrose · 05/09/2024 13:25

0 nights away this summer. It was a long 6 weeks with the DC at home.

We had our holiday during the Easter holidays. I’d much rather the schools have extra time off at Easter and a shorter summer holiday, as we had to take the DC out of school for a couple of days to make the holiday doable.

snowballsintheoven · 05/09/2024 13:29

This year it was 3 weeks (3 x week long abroad)

Next year it's 1.. so far, will probably be 2

idontwanttogetdressed · 05/09/2024 14:03

This Summer Hols we were away for 17 Days total, 1 week then a few Weekends. We normally go away Every School Half Term for the Weekend / 3 Days.

Jammedchakra · 05/09/2024 17:16

We try and go away for most of my DH holiday allowance, so 6-7 weeks

DarkForces · 05/09/2024 17:18

1 week. I spread my leave through the year

RandomUsernameHere · 05/09/2024 17:30

It varies, but around 4-5 weeks usually. DH and I both get 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays.

RandomUsernameHere · 05/09/2024 17:31

That's for the whole year, not just the summer holidays!

caringcarer · 05/09/2024 17:34

2 weeks in our holiday home in France during the summer holidays. In the past we've gone for 6 weeks. Then we let friends borrow it. Going on our main holiday (child free) for 2 weeks in October half term.

Lampzade · 05/09/2024 17:35

Summer- usually two weeks
Easter- seven days- when not in exam years
Christmas / New Year - three days in Europe
